Default Help with 1889 Spalding World Tour Program

Posted By: Prewarsports

I just recently aquired this item, and believe it is an 1889 Spalding World Tour program. It came from an American diplomate's scrapbook and has a picture of Spalding on the front, an advertisement for his Sporting Goods (now available in Europe) on the inside, and a few pages dedicated to how to play the game of baseball, talking as if you were at the game like "you will see the shape of the field etc...". Back cover has a full diagram of a baseball field. The price of Twopence means it obviously was sold to the public like a scorecard, and there are 4 dates where games are being played in ENgland at the bottom.

Anyone ever see anything like this before or have any idea of value?

...on ebay. Because it was titled "America's National Game" (same as the title of the book Spalding wrote), I assumed it was some sort of advertisement for the book and I passed when it got higher than I wanted to pay. Obviously I made a mistake!

It is the program to the 1889 World Tour. I took it to the Sportsfest Show and the people at Hunts auction sold one 10 years ago and confirmed it was the program issued in England for the Tour in 1889.
