Default Packers Make Common Stock Shares Available

The Green Bay Packers are the only major sports team that is publicly owned. Individual investors can purchase shares of the Packers for $300 per share.

I'm undecided on participating because I'm still bitter at the NFL due to the Rams moving from St. Louis, but this is pretty cool. I'll get over it. Someday. Maybe.

My wife and I owned Boston Celtics stock until they became a private company. We bought two shares for $40 each. We were forced to sell them at around $60 and used the profit to buy the canceled certificate. It makes a nice conversation piece.

I can imagine the risk factors in the prospectus. Our coach may make really stupid calls late in the game. Our unvaccinated quarterback may become seriously ill. Our star wide receiver may not renew his contract.

I am a Packer owner at $250 a share.

The stock only has a face value. It is not a voting share. It has your name on it and cannot be redeemed for cash or transferred to another party. I think it can be bequeathed to an heir and the name can be changed when you die. Other than that the funds are used for stadium upgrades. It is not publicly traded.

It is only a donation to the Packer organization and framed the stock looks great on the wall.

There are over 4,000,000 non-voting owners from prior sales.

Hope this helps.

Today's $300 shares will still be worth exactly $300 after the Packers win the Super Bowl this year.

Even though it is referred to as "common stock" in corporate offering documents, a share of Packers stock does not share the same rights traditionally associated with common or preferred stock. It does not include an equity interest, does not pay dividends, cannot be traded, and has no protection under securities law. It also confers no season-ticket purchasing privileges. Shareholders receive nothing more than voting rights, an invitation to the corporation's annual meeting, and an opportunity to purchase exclusive shareholder-only merchandise.[4]

Shares cannot be resold, except back to the team for a fraction of the original price. While new shares can be given as gifts, transfers are technically allowed only between immediate family members once ownership has been established.[3]

Isn't that what I just said in the previous post without the high-falootin legalese?

Jeez, Peter

Purchased shares like these do not confer voting rights, unlike wading or rowing across the rio grande.
