Default How About Those Yankees....

Which player is it harder to find cards for: Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig? Any thoughts?

Don't forget the Joker -- I won't try to spell his name off the top of my head. Also, the Washington contingent would nominate Montez Sweat.

I vote that we do not have this conversation, and instead just enjoy the stuff that we collect.

Apologies.... Humor gone awry. Let's switch to Yankees talk

Replying to the revised inquiry...Lou Gehrig is the tougher player by a mile. The first half of his career came during years (1923-32) that had a big lull in card sets manufactured, while Babe Ruth played during a couple explosions of card manufacture (namely the early 20's, and 1933 time frame) that had multiple widely distributed sets.

I would venture to state that Lou is probably the top rung Hall of Famer (who played during the 20th century) that has the least amount of different available cards.

Gehrig.

He played in a time where there were less sets of cards produced, and even the ones he appeared in were minimal. His last "mainstream" issue would be his 1936 World Wide Gum card.

Thanks Brian, seems that way. I'm researching his "lesser" cards in an attempt to add at least one pre-war Gehrig to my collection.

Ruth cards are easier to find. Neither are easy to buy.

Sometimes I wonder if I am betraying my Phillies for collecting so many Yankees
