Default October Pick Up Thread

Got these awesome tickets in the mail today. They are from Roger Clemens first 20K game. If anyone has an extra from his 2nd 20K game I would love to trade my extra for one.

That's extremely cool! I was shocked to see how large newspaper illustrations were drawn. I have a couple related to WWII baseball.

Thanks Rob and Jeff. I plan on matting and framing it with ticket stubs from the seven games of the 71 Series.

Won this in Lelands...wasn't going to keep it framed, but it is a very well done, professional frame, and my son loves it...so for now, it'll remain as is.

Thanks Leon! I think I stole it, honestly. People (myself included) tend to shy away from framed pieces at auction. I think that kept this price down.

Thanks to another fellow member I now have 2 tickets to each game. Not sure what 2 of these I get but any 2 will work.

I like odd ball stuff like this. When it’s related to a Pirate I cannot resist. In 1924 base stealing HOFer Max Carey filed for patent #1641318. His creation was this pair of sliding pads. Here is a mint condition example of them.

Some interesting items

Never thought about tickets but they seem to be exploding in interest for people to collect and the prices are jumping accordingly

Default Vintage 1913 Maier Beer ad, 1940 Maier Beer can.

Maier owned the PCL Vernon and Venice Tigers. The move to Venice in 1913, was based in large part on potential beer sales.

Oh yeah, the PCL had long seasons due to the temperate weather throughout most of the league cities. California also had a vibrant winter ball scene that even featured some Negro League players in semi-mixed competition (the teams were not integrated but there were interracial games). Lots of big names played out there. Per SABR: "Among the Negro Leaguers who played winter ball on the West Coast, Raleigh “Biz” Mackey reigns supreme, playing 18 winters in the Golden State and maintaining an impressive .366 batting average with 28 home runs."

Which is all by way of excuse for posting one of my favorite snapshots:

Default Ball

Amazing these things still turn up once in a great while. This is a game used ball from September 11, 1948. The game was between the Rockford Peaches and the Kenosha Comets...The final score was 4-0 Rockford. The ball is signed by 15 players from Rockford and has the date written in black ink along with "No hits No runs". It is an official ball. The game was pitched by Marge Holgerson of Rockford--her 4th career and last no hitter.
