. I sold a ton of lower end mays I had to build up enough to grab this. I was also picky on what I wanted. I wanted centered with good visual and no major creases that take eye appeal away.

No paper loss ✅

I bought this one through heritage, at a couple hundred below where similar were selling for. A bit of writing in the bat, but has great centering for this always way OC card.

Centered with good eye appeal!

Keep 'em coming!

I decided in 2021 that I didn't have nearly enough Mays cards in my collection, and that I would try to get more.

This Willie Mays thread was started back in May of this year and has a lot of great cards posted within.
No harm in seeing more, however.

Centering is another huge problem with this set. I saw this and I had to have it.

1954 topps SGC A

This thing is mint besides you know not having corners. I don’t usually touch altered cards, but this was too pretty to pass up at 125$.

There is a variant of the 54 with a white band on his arm. Fairly common

Thanks for sharing your great Mays cards, AP. It's always good fun to see great collections, and it seems like you've still got a lot more coming.

As some of you may know, I have a bit of a Mays collection as well. I've hesitated to share it here, just because this is AP's thread, and I don't want to be viewed as usurping this thread, or maybe stealing the show with an unnecessary cardboard flex.

Having said that, if you have a lot of time on your hands, and you're dying to see my full Mays collection, you can find it here:

https://www.psacard.com/psasetregist...shedset/290520

However, I will share a few pieces here, since we all enjoy a little cardboard eye candy.

First, a few mainline cards that I enjoy, mostly because of their borders, which make them difficult to find in high grades.

Finally, a handful of some oddballs that are near and dear to my heart. Of course, when I first started collecting, the oddballs confused me and drove me nuts. Now that I've warmed up to them, I've enjoyed the quest to find them, because so many of them are nearly impossible to find.

Thanks for the praise. "Best", in this context is a bit of a term of art, just because we're only going by stuff in the set registry, which excludes everyone who doesn't do graded cards, and also excludes anything that PSA doesn't grade. So the odds are good that there are a lot of other collections out there that are just as nice if not nicer.

At the same time, it's definitely an exciting adventure to chase down everything that PSA includes in the set registry. Just a handful left to get them all, at least until more pieces are added to the set registry...

Is that the Topps stand up test set issue from like 64? From what I've heard they are really thick. I remember seeing one of these at auction in the last year or so, but the bidding went up to like $28k, so I tapped out.

From what I've heard, there are only a few floating around out there.

Incredible stuff guys, i have never seen some of those. I got in the game late, so a lot of that is permanently out of my reach. Still love seeing and learning about the oddballs with home that I may get a shot at some of them someday.

Nicolo---the Stand Ups are from 1967 according to SCD but Dave Hornish may have better insight. They can be found thick with die cuts or in thin "proof form". Some seem scarcer that others. I still need one to finish the set.

But your Dice card and 66 Punch Out are in my view by far the toughest of his Topps cards, although I think Larry S has what may be the only actual Topps Mays Plak I have ever seen.

I have settled on only one example of the 66 Dice, Kaline, and one example of the 66 Punch Outs, Stargel. Would guess less than a handful exist for any of those unissued test items

1960 topps SGC 6.5 (a bit undergraded IMO)
1961 topps SGC 8 this is a beauty, tiny blemish on top left.

This is my favorite mays topps base card. Love the color watch and the image selected.

1962 topps PSA 8(PD)
A bit of snow on the front but picked up for less than 1/10th the cost of a real PSA 8. Card is gorgeous and this set is impossible for condition.
