Default t206 color missing errors

Posted By: Anonymous

I won this Willett card and thought it looked like the red color was missing. Today I got it and it is certainly pale orange. How do we come up with a value for cards missing a color?

I'm not offering a direct answer to your pricing question, other than to offer it on eBay and see how it sells.

But I'd think that card has been soaked a bit... I'd suggest studying it to see if the red is there, only faded a bit. I've bought cards from this seller that had been in the storm and in the scrapbook. I was quite happy with what I got, but I'm sure he soaked them to get them free from the pages and each other.

I don't see any factory info on the back. Are we sure this isn't a reprint?

(And I agree with Frank. The back looks orange also. Looks like it's been washed.)

The factory is very light. It's factory 30, 2nd dist ny. It doesn't appear to be faded cause there is still a good bit of gloss despite being beat up.

...and has an orange background. This is a fairly common printing issue with red background T206 cards. There may be some small premium for these, but the missing red is more compelling when it wipes out a "B" in a hat, like Sweeney.

I placed the card on a red background so you can see the color the card should be

I think most Willett cards have a touch of red along the left
cheek, near where the nose is. Yours has ink there that looks
the same color as the background.

That could be because of a lack of red in the printing process,
or because there was much less red ink than is normal, or because
the card has been soaked multiple times or for a long time, and
maybe a bit of bleach was used...

I agree that his background is not the deep red normally encountered.
