Yeah, that little guy fills a hole from the 4-in-1 I sold last year and couldn't really justify spending to replace. Feels like a wholesome mini-card, even the cut edges probably have 80 years of wear on them. Reminded me of the insurance commercial, "only pay for what you need". Happy to have it.

at one time I was considering an andy warholesque montage of quaker ruth photos. I settled on 5.

Some people think that the Universal Surprise Box quad is meant to be cut up like a strip card. I personally wouldn't cut one but I am agnostic on the question. I wonder if the cuts would get a numerical grade?

i have an email into csg to see if they'll grade it...I only expect an A. I do not believe any other companies will grade it.

SGC's scramble of a pop report has them listed under:

C.1920S UNIVERSAL TOY in baseball and another one for the boxers
C.1920S UNIVERSAL TOY & NOVELTY

They have singles and partials.

Best I can do, Pete:

SEARCHED AUTH CODE: 1352690-001
SET: C.1920 Universal Toy
SUBJECT: Ruth/Johnson
GRADED ON: July 2013
GRADE: A

Across all the different set names SGC has 71 total cards slabbed from the issue. Vast majority appear to be the portrait types.

Here are my Ruth’s.

I’m on team 144 for sure.

And a 1/1 game used bat barrel. It’s pretty tough to find the outer pieces of bat when getting game used bat pieces.

Every time I see those cards I feel horrible that an historic bat was cut up to make a bucks for a card company.

Did they really create a Babe Ruth bat card and use a reverse image photograph???????????? Of the most famous left handed baseball player in history???????? Come on, Leaf!!!!! Come on!!!!!

(And yes, I realize it's possible he was just holding the bat righty, but I don't believe for moment that's the case!!)

I agree to an extent, but I'm also grateful as I would never be able to own a Ruth bat and this is the next best thing. I'm a sucker for refractors too so I do love it.

Careful Rad_Hazard...modern cards with bat and jersey cuts in them aren't always viewed too positively around here.

From the sketchy provenance to the destruction of sacred memorabilia, just owning one might get you banned from Net54.

But if they kick you out, they'll have to send me with you...I personally think they're cool. Getting to own a piece of bat used by Babe Ruth for the fraction of the cost of a playing days card? Yes please! Here's the one I picked up a few years ago....I love it (not as much as I love my vintage w517 and 1935 Goudey cards posted earlier in this thread....but I think it's pretty awesome).

Yikes! I didn't even think about negative reactions to memorabilia cards. Good to know.

That is a beautiful Ruth bat card! Just as you said, owning a piece of history for a fraction of the cost is very appealing.

I have the original photograph by George Lyons of Babe Ruth & Ted Williams from 1948 with the photographer copyright stamp. There was a premium of this photograph that was put out on the market.

Here are my favorite Ruth items that I’ll pass on to my kids one day. Would love to add some cards but even in low grade they’ve become cost prohibitive.

At least you have his 1933 Goudey, and not a bad looker for a damaged card.

Picked up a big guy (literally). Trying to think what to keep it in. I like one-touches for my cards so was thinking maybe a comic book sized magnetic holder would be worth trying. Would be a bit of extra space, but just might work for displaying.

[QUOTE=CardPadre;2258264]Picked up a big guy (literally). Trying to think what to keep it in. I like one-touches for my cards so was thinking maybe a comic book sized magnetic holder would be worth trying. Would be a bit of extra space, but just might work for displaying.

I have a large number of large items ; Beckett in Texas naturally does things in a large way.:

.. If that R309 still has the easel on the back then even with the crease and touches it's still a large number and Beckett is a good protection provider. Kinda like that vault option everybody and his brother is now offering, only closer .

My friend is a huge Musial collector and uses the 8x10 photo big boy one touches. They look great!

Yeah, that’s a good visual. I think the comic book one-touches are pretty similar in size but maybe have a little more depth to fit the thickness of the comic?

I’ll have to compare them in person, but that Ruth premium is quite thick cardstock and the easel on back adds even more thickness to it. Since the 8x10 is described to be for photos, wonder if it would smush a thicker item like this…or maybe not even close correctly.

A snapshot I own. Babe in 1942 at the premier of "Pride of the yankees" very small shot about 2x2 inches.

Excellent pose and card of the Babe! Send it to Becket. What they can't tell the difference between a real card and a fake one? Just about every card out there of value has been faked or reprinted. Not to mention all the Professionally restored cards out there, and who knows how many in holders?

An interesting sidebar to this photo: The photographer taking Babe's picture kindly asked him to remove the chewing gum he was masticating for the shot. Babe obliged and stuck it on the top of his cap, presumably for future use.
