Default question on 3 finger brown

Posted By: Rob

why does his 1909 american caramel show him with 4 normal fingers (thumb not showing)? maybe most of his other cards show him with a full set of digits, this was the first time i looked.

Default question on 3 finger brown

I suppose it's because that isn't a picture of Brown at all. E91s are widely disliked because in most cases the images bear no relation to the appearance of the actual players.

Do any of Brown's cards make his pitching hand visible? I can't think of any offhand.

Tim

and some even have what appears to be a black glove on the hand. Does anyone happen to know if he actually wore the black glove, obviously not while pitching, or if the photographer put it on the photos. Look at a T200 for a shot of his hand. Plowboy Tobacco cabinet shows it very well as well.

Default question on 3 finger brown

At 7 yrs. old Brown fell while playing in their wheat fields, he fell and caught the hand in a grain-cutter his brother was running. They had to amputate his index finger at the knuckle and he also lost all sensation in his pinky. While recovering, he broke his other 2 fingers wrestling pigs...tough kid!!
The reality though is that 3 Finger Brown actually had 4 fingers...and had a lifetime record of 13-11 vs. Matty...

For additional pix and a little more info, you may want to take a look at an article we did on Brown in Old Cardboard eNewsletter Issue #32 (December 2006) at http://localhost/eNews/enews32/eNews32.htm. It is the fifth item at the bottom of the page.
