Default 1908 Birmingham Smallwares Jack Johnson set

Hello all,

Was wondering if anyone else here had any of these rare cards? I have close to the full set and they are my favorite boxing cards I own. Wondering if anyone had more info about them? They seem to be exceedingly rare. Anyone know if a full set exists?

They're all really great quality images and seem to be some of Jack's earliest and toughest to find!

I recently had them all slabbed, and think they look great in SGC!

Looks like an Austrailian postcard company, which would help explain the rarity.

Here is an auction listing of a different postcard set by the company:

Interesting, I see those say printed in Germany for those PC's.

I got most of these from a UK seller years ago. I beleive most of them come from UK but the one I have #9 that was graded Authentic is the only one with a different back (from Australia) I believe these were printed in UK and Australia with the Australian ones seemingly even rarer. I think SGC gave it an auth because its smaller than the others. However it shows no evidence of trimming and seems to have been printed smaller than the other back variation.

Looks like they were headquartered out of Birmingham, England, but had a wholesale operation located in Sydney, Austrailia. (and their printing was outsourced to Germany)

Beautiful set.

They are amongst that swirl of 1908-1909 JJ cards that might be considered RCs, besides the 1909 Ogden's, the large Aussie PC from the Burns fight, and the 1909 Jeffries playing card.

Past auction for a glass negative for the postcard series. The auction house is located in Sydney, Austrailia, which seems to indicate this would be an Austrailian issue.

Promotional poster for the postcard series. Page states that the item originated from Austrailia.

What's an estimate for an individual card price? I might want to pick one up if they aren't too expensive.
