Josh EvansOkay men and women of knowledge, here goes
I recently discovered this in a very interesting find of stuff (more on that another time)
It is an original paste up from the 1930s measuring about 8.5x11”
It is an actual Jimmy Foxx Conlon photo that has been painted over for publication use, where I do not know
Yes it could have been for use in a magazine, newspaper or other publication but I doubt it is different than the usual paste-ups for pubs
Note the “Conlon Photo” note that would have eventually appeared on the piece itself (unusual for an article) along with a very stand alone “James Foxx Athletics”
I would reason that both of these legends would have appeared on the piece in the next step artistically
The final product is measured out at 3.5x5”
On the verso of the paste-up is written the words “Foxx” in large letters as if to distinguish it from something else in the series (other players)
It this artwork for some oversized “card,” postcard, exhibit?
I do not know
Can you help?
Josh
