Default Harvey Brandwein

Years ago, 1988 to be exact, shortly before graduating from weather forecasting school at Chanute Air Force Base, I bought a 1934-39 William Harridge Official American League baseball, autographed by Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Ty Cobb. I paid $500 for it. The Air Force Base Exchange used to bring vendors in on a regular basis, who would set up tables in the corridor left and right of the main entrance. One of these sold old sports memorabilia. I have no doubt of the authenticity, but this ball has dramatically risen in value since 1988. It came with a Letter of Authenticity and Provenance from The National Pastime, Inc., signed by Harvey Brandwein. Anyone heard of this gentleman or the organization? I am considering having this ball graded for my family.

Harvey Brandwein and his company, The National Pastime, was one of the big dealers back in the 1970s and 1980s; they had full-page ads on, IIRC, the inside front cover of SCD and various other hobby papers.

They were based in New Rochelle, New York, and also ran many card shows and autograph signings with all the major baseball stars.

You should post a photo of the autographs before you have it authenticated. Despite the LOA, Harvey did not get these autographs in person and the 80’s were still the Wild West for authenticity. And for those that want to comment, yes I know who Harvey is and I have been to his shows back in the day. I only comment in an attempt to potentially give this guy some additional information so he can make an informed decision.
