Default Coach's Corner Strikes Again

Posted By: Paul

I may be the only one on this Board who cares about the amazing items offered by Coach's Corner, and the appropriately low prices they often achieve. But this one was too good to keep to myself. From the latest SCD comes this gem of a quote about their October auction: "Signed baseballs continued to generate solid bidding . . . Amos Rusie ($271)."

How sick would you feel if you put a genuine Rusie ball up for auction and got only $271?

It couldn't be a typo, could it? Even if you add a zero, it's still too cheap. Maybe they dropped a "9" from the beginning?

...someone stamped rusie's name, and then stamped "proof" on the sweet spot.

This is a question for Bob Lemke---Why doesn't SCD investigate to see whether the items that they auction off are legitimate. The prices are crazy if the items are authentic! SCD in effect vouches for the authenticity of their items via their reporting of the auction results with no caveats.

who obviously offer questionable items.........there was another advertiser that escapes me (maybe Jay-Cee or someone like that) who had an ad for about 15-20 HOFer baseballs being sold individually like Tim Keefe for $2,500 or Anson or something ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS that only calls to question what bilge that SCD is accepting. Obviously, it would be difficult for them to corral EVERYTHING that goes into the magazine but isn't there SOME responsibility to the public at large to try to help minimize the fraud.

I just wonder when Coach's Corner will picture one of those dudes that go hawk autographs all over the place getting a signed Clemente ball from Roberto at the pearly gates to heaven. Maybe in between getting all the Playboy Playmate and Porno signatures they could pick up a Eddie Delehanty too.........

Bob---Please tell me that the reason the SCD allows this to go on is not because Coaches Corner is one of its biggest advertisers.

Why doesn't SCD do a story about them where they either prove that their stuff is OK or expose it if it is not? Come on guys---show you speak for collectors!!!!!!!

SCD has had columns pointing out how the autograph offerings on eBay couldn't possibly be authentic because the selling prices were so low. A column about $40 Mantle autos a couple months ago comes to mind.

You expect them to do the same with an advertiser? C'mon.

Hasn't Mr. Lemke, or was it someone else, already noted that SCD advertisers will just sort of fade away - but we'll never know why.

Elliot---Why was his post edited? It wasn't offensive. Was it because you do not know the poster and were concerned about its contents?

scd has done several stories on them over the past several years. in fact they rant and rave about them having great autos and great deals. whenever they do a profile of respectable auto dealers they are in there along with steiner, uda, rich altman and the like

I believe it is Elliot's policy to delete posts from unknown ficticious name that do not include a legit email address with the post, offensive or not. Everyone ont he know is 'known', perse and I think he is trying to keep it that way.

Jay

The post was deleted because it was anonymous and it gave an opinion. In general, posts that are anonymous will be deleted, unless there are completely benign. In this case the poster commented negatively on Coaches' Corner. If he wants to do so (or comment positively) he needs to identify himself.

Your explanation is accepted and understood. I will still observe and wait for a reply from a rep. of SCD on the Coaches Corner thread.
