Default I stand corrected - Grading isn't really stupid, like I had thought

This link proves it :

Heh....not as bad as encapsulating a comic book, but still pretty bad.

Just curious...was this particular issue delivered to people folded in half? If so, it does seem more like a comic book, and should probably be graded accordingly.

Just my two cents.

That is pretty ridiculous. Not sure what the submitter was thinking?

While I'm no fan of cards being entombed, in Becket's defense the team supplement was likely already folded (I don't believe a large i.e cubs/pirates/A's/tigers M101-2 team supplement has been found without a fold in the middle). If you bust it out of the plastic, it'll be in the same shape it was previously in. Had it been flat and they folded it, obviously that would be unforgivable.

I think the $700 price tag on a $200-250 item might be more outrageous than the encapsulation ...

Whoever is responsible for this being folded in half, be it the submitter, Beckett, or Sporting News...really? Nothing like having a big old fold right in the middle of an otherwise beautiful team portrait.

I used to collect comics and people get very intense about comic book grading. White paged graded books bring a premium (even though you can't see them).

I have one of these. It's good for re-sell to people who question you about whether or not it is trimmed. It is okay for display - mine's leaning against a shelf and looks good there other than the chunk of slab that was broken off. It looks like a failed attempt to break it out of the slab, but I'm told it was dropped (therefore, no longer useful for re-sell).

My guess is that the only way you can get them out of the slab is to send them to Beckett, where they have special miniature jackhammers.

There are collectors in all hobbies that pay higher prices for things I don't understand.
