Default Returning e-bay item question

Well in over 700 transactions on e-bay, I think for the first time I may have to return something due to questionable authenticity. Seller has over 5,000 transactions and 100% rating so I can reasonably assume that there was no intent to deceive.

My question is, when returning the item, is DC enough or do I also need sig. confirmation?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I had to return a card about a month ago and I opened a case with ebay, and sent the card back with DC and insurance, but I didn't get sig confirmation. Everything went smoothly for me. Good luck.

Luke,

The seller has a 7 day return policy following receipt of the item, so I don't think I'll have to open a case. The pessimist in me just doesn't want to send it and have the seller say he never received it and not refund the money.

The seller that I was dealing with seemed really shady to me so I opened the ebay case to give me piece of mind. We spoke on the phone and the guy kept trying to convince me that maybe his listing didn't really say the card was original (it clearly did). He had a high rating and like 99.8% positives, and it just wouldn't have been worth it for him to risk his ebay reputation. If we had agreed to a return without ebay involved, I definitely would have wanted to use sig. confirmation fwiw.

Out of curiosity, do you have to get the seller's permission to return the item? For example, if the seller said the card was an original, but after the ebay auction, you found out the card was a reprint. When you told the seller this, the seller said sorry, no returns, what should you do? Should you open the ebay case first and then send the card back if ebay rules in your favor? Or should you go ahead and send the card back w/ confirmation even tho the seller said no returns?

Gary,

I think you can return an item even if seller states "no returns". If you receive a reprint you can open a dispute stating card was "significantly not as described". When returning, I believe you have to send with DC. Again, I have never had to return before, so I'm not 100%

As to the item I was referring to in my original post, the item is pretty rare (less than 10 known), so I didn't have as many reference photos as I would have liked. I contacted an auctioneer who has sold 2 in the past 15 years or so and sent him detailed pics from the auction and in his opinion the item was legit. I should receive it in the next day or two and at that time I'll look it over and if I feel comfortable with it, I'll keep it. If not, I'll send it back.

my seller had the item listed as no returns. I opened the "item not as described" case with ebay and shortly after received a message from ebay saying to send the card back to the seller, as he had agreed to refund my money.
