Default A New One On Me

A seller on eBay recently listed a 1967 Topps #573 Chicago White Sox Team card as an error with the Cleveland Indians 1966 stats printed on the back rather than the 1966 White Sox stats printed on the back, at first I thought it might be a rare variation but after looking at several other 1967 #573 White Sox Team cards I realized that all of them were printed that way and it was never corrected. I imagine some members here are aware of this error but I couldn't find any documentation of it anywhere.

If the card came out these days, it would be explained that the Indians (whatever they are called now) players 'identified' as White Sox.

I believe these are known as UER, or uncorrected error, cards. Other types include when a birthday is wrong, hit totals are wrong, etc.

It's been listed in Ralph Nozaki's guides sine 1976.

I took advantage of my editing privileges on Trading Card Database to denote the 1967 Topps #573 White Sox Team card as an UER with the stats of the 1966 Indians rather than the 1966 White Sox. It is shocking to me that such a huge error card has gone under the radar all of these years even though it was never corrected. ETA, I see now at least one publication recognized it.

Nozaki's work goes back a ways. It was the foundation for Gilkeson's publications on variations which is now being updated by Mike Cady

Ironic since the front of the card uses a team photo from 1964.
