My last M116 question- I promise!!!!!!

I left it out of the batch I sent to SGC because the McGraw was a little too long, and I don't know if they do comparisons. |

My last M116 question- I promise!!!!!!
Posted By: leon
Tbob, As I stated on my previous post I have an SGC 40 Matty-blue that is 2 5/8 and an SGC 92 Clarke-pastel that is 2 5/8, as well as a Conroy-ungraded that is 2 5/8 (which I just found in my stuff).........one of the graded ones is a 4-5 year old grade and the other is a newer grade.....I believe they do not have to be 2 3/4 as the SCD states.....if yours is 1/16 smaller than these AND has some other bad characteristic(s) I think you would want to be careful...I only have limited experience but that's my one cent worth...hope it helps...best regards.. |

I sent in a beautiful McGraw that measured 1/8" thin. I really think that size-wise this issue is all over the board. |

if 2 5/8" passes muster with SGC, then both of my 'short' one should get graded then, and they should pull nice grades too. |

If mine, ungraded and graded, are the same size I am not sure I would call them short.....maybe, as a lot of early 20th century issues are, there are different sizes from the mfg.....best regards.. |

scott saw my Abby. that thing is on the large size, and not knowing a lot about this set, I just assumed the 2 5/8" cards were trimmed. I am used to size variance on older cards, but nothing like that. |

If you have received the catalog for the Lipset auction, on the front page #4 item you will notice that the 6 pictured M116s that highlight the set up for auction size differently in the scan. |

M116's do have a little variance in length. I bought a group of about 100 M116's from a long time collector in DC. He had purchased these cards from a man that opened the packs (direct from Sporting News in 191?) in front of him. I have sold most of them ( I still have a couple of the wrappers)over the past 6 years but sent a group to PSA 2 years ago. I sent 10 cards, 3 came back as trimmed (ungradeable), (4) 8's and (3) 7's. I am always a little skeptical about grading services, specially when you the occasional trimmed old judge card receiving hi grades. |

Terry - sounds like the cards you submitted were actually "not within size guidelines", so why the heck can't PSA just say that? |
