Yeah, I have to admit this 'card' displays really nicely. It's a strange item though. I always figured it'd be cardboard-y like Colgan's themselves, but it's really much thinner. It's in an SGC holder so I can't say for sure, but it's really almost like paper. It'll be interesting to learn more about this.

As for Gibson, I was actively looking for something to focus my collection on many years ago and read his chapter in 'Glory of Their Times'. He's Canadian and played many years with the Pirates teams of Honus Wagner and Fred Clarke fame, before moving on to coaching/managing in the 20's and 30's. Seeing one of his Pirates' uniforms at the Canadian Baseball HoF brought him to life for me. Actually, just mentioning that makes me want to head back there to see it again. When my "hobby time" is not being spent scouring the usual places for cards, I am reading old newspapers and sports publications about Gibson. I find his baseball life to be very interesting.

With respect to collecting, I've identified over 100 issues (w/ variations) including cards, postcards, stamps, chips, discs across a number of sets touching on mostly pre-1920 issues, but also into the 20s and 30s. I've been building this list for years. Just last week alone, a board member (hi Doug!) helped me confirm his inclusion in another issue that I had previously overlooked. The entire "set" has some issues that are difficult enough that I'll probably never get everything, but just possible enough for me to think I should try

Yep, it's one of them. When I first learned about this card some 6-7 years ago, it was the first time I'd ever seen one -- but it wasn't available for sale/trade. So I'm pretty stoked to be able to get it now.

Regards,

Richard.

These were my "night before the National opened" pickups as I battled on eBay with my I-phone on a bench outside the hotel. Getting sniped on Goosetree and Yeager was a killer but I was happy with the 7 I picked up.

Default Sovereigns

Technically, won in Sterling in July but arrived today in England so going to include in August pick-ups.

Stephens has a slight mis-cut to the back - very happy to nab this.

Tbob king of the phone bidders. There is a very humorous story on his phone bidding prowess should he decide to tell it!

Thanks! I think I may have slightly overpaid but I'd been the second highest bidder in the last two auctions for this card, so I'm glad I ended up with this one...which I won by less than a full bid increment.

I picked up my first two M101-6s at the National with thanks to PF. The image of Veach is very dramatic.

My first type 1 - hopefully. Didn't pay any more than what I'm paying to get '61 Topps high numbers, so it's no great loss if it is not an original.

If the year is correct, he'd be 25 yrs old and in his rookie year.

It's short, but it's not trimmed. You can see on along the front bottom edge where the green print came up around from the back. I believe this card was on the bottom of the sheet. Thanks to Dan M. for the deal and for PSA & Love of the Game auctions for my new loupe!

Interesting photo. It looks like this exact photo (same notations) sold in a 2011 Mears auction. I am thinking that Plank looks too old in the picture to be 1901. His photo on the 1903 E107 looks like a much younger person. The memorabilia guys might be of more help in placing a year on the photo.

My guess on the Plank photo is 1910's but produced at a later date, most likely.

Default My first Cobb 40!

I picked this up raw in July and AG was able to get it graded for me at the National. So super stoked that it got a 40!
