Default Don Larsen cellophane sealed ball

Posted By: swartz1

Hello - I was directed to this site from another board(member)...will check this place out...While I am looking around, I would like to know if anyone can give me information about this ball...In question, the ball on the right - still sealed...

I have questioned Don himself and the Yankee Fan Website as well as Yankee Archives with no solid leads...

hi, welcome to the board...this is not my area of expertise, but if i had to guess, i would say the ball on the left (real signature) is worth a lot more then the faxsimile example on the right. the one on the right was either a store model, or given away at the stadium as a promotion...again, i'd imagine the one with his real sig is the more valuable one.

regards,
MS

I beg to differ. Larsen has signed tens of thousands of balls (if not more) over the years, is an overly-frequent guest at card shows, and is an easy signature to obtain through the mail. I can't comment on the value of the facsimile ball, but Mr. Larsen's autograph suffers from "Bob Feller Syndrome", thus its value is not overly great.

good point...but i realize that Larsen's sig is easy to get (i met him too), so i know it's not worth all that much, BUT, i was still thinking that his real sig would be worth more than a facsimile example...

I was thinking more of the memorabilia value of an item likely issued in 1956 or '57 to commemorate the event. I would actually have Larsen sign the vintage piece.

Is it just me or in certain pictures doesn't Larsen look like Hugh Jennings? Maybe even Chad Curtis?

Can you set me up with a link to that item...I cant seem to find it...

and to answer the other question ...

the ball on the left is one that I unwrapped and had Don sign...so it is a similar type ball...When he signed it...He was curious as to where it came from...That is why I am trying to find out, in addition to my own curiosity...thanks so far...

.... ball is more rare and harder to come by. I sold a similar

ball in 2002 on ebay for almost $300. I do believe the ball was

produced in the early to mid 60`s.

Best of luck!!

aL
