Default Baseball report from 1855

Posted By: Jason Mishelow

Just picked up this New York Daily Tribune with a very early box score and game report. I was struck by a couple of things. 1. Despite being such an early report there is no explaination of the game- the writers asssumed that the reader would already have a good working knowledge of the game. 2. That the full team game featured 11 players on a side- I wonder where the two extra played- I am guessing a second catcher and extra infielder. Thoughts on either point?

Looks like it was a doubleheader and 9 men played on each game
