Default February Pick Up Thread

Time to start a new month!

Thrilled to finally pick up a T211 and commit to starting this set. It'll be a slow burn, but only 74 more to go

Acquired, but not in hand, is this 1925 Turf Cigarettes card of Hall of Famer George Sisler from the recently ended Brockelman Auction.

It has been on my wishlist for years, as it has all the obvious attributes of a classic card. It has a colorful action shot of a hitter that doesn't seem to resemble George Sisler, the depiction also being of a righthanded batter instead of a lefthander, the abbreviation of his name on the backside misidentified as "C.H.", his batting average for 1922 written as "41,979" instead of .420, a mention of a baseball monument in Washington that was never built, and all-time great name for the cigarette manufacturer...Alexander Boguslavsky.

Brian (I will provide bigger scans when the card arrives) edit: got around to scanning this bad boy, so promise kept, now carry on with your day.

............. Big THANKS to Bob I. for this very nice back upgrade ......

up15.jpg

............... Off to a nice start on my new T213-2 adventure .............

up16cc.jpg

As as aside, something interesting (at least to me ): Joe Kelley never played or managed NY AL. During Coupon-2 issue he was the head scout for the them (why waist a good image ). I do not know if there is another player/manager that is depicted as a scout ????

Fun, fun, Scott

Nice start and enjoy the journey Scott. Looks like you were able to land 9 from the Federal League. Your Coupon examples are proof that collector condition, and even lower condition, T213-2 cards can have images that are very bold and colorful due to their glossy finish.

Sorry about the pics--scanner hasn't been connected in years.

Jerry, yes, corrected.

Brian, Thanks. That's what I like about them, lower grade condition is totally acceptable ....... and in my range ..............

Speaking of condition, fun fact, there is only 1 PSA 6 in PSA pops., NONE higher !!

Picked up this T206 Hal Chase white cap card from the BST (thanks Jon), not only because it is a cool beat up card (with a Piedmont 150 back, for those keeping score at home), but also to be able to provide a suitable alternative to the infamous chewed up T206 portrait card of Rube Waddell, which I was the underbidder on many years ago, during stretches when the Waddell is missing in N54 action for an uncomfortably long period of time.

First two pick ups of February were the final two I needed to complete the T206 set of 19 Senators. Elberfeld arrived today and the Johnson portrait was picked up at the Pre-War show in DC!

37 towards 205 for the back run, but that's where the marathon of collecting comes in. A huge thanks to board members wazoo, marcdelpercio, and lug-nut for helping me pull everything together, and to the board member I sat with in DC last weekend that gave me a very fair deal on the Johnson portrait (who's name is escaping me - I hope the drive back to Cleveland was easy!).

Thank you to this community, this is a set I've been waiting 30 years to complete.

Honestly Val, I think its going to be both the T205 and the T207 issuances at once. Two Johnsons (same as the T206) and no Elberfeld short print means I think I less of a challenge in front of me - especially if I'm not going on a back run! Still going to need some help pulling it all together!

Nice pick-up Elliot. That's always been one of my favorite Cobb poses. And I've never owned one before, but someday, hopefully.

I like your Schmidt Dockman card...it has a great backside. I wouldn't mind seeing the back of the card as well.

Brian (I actually do like the look of your card, as it is an attractive example)
