Default Minor league cards getting some love?

https://www.cllct.com/sports-collect...-league-record

Did you guys see this? I was surprised that the less rare version of Cal Ripken's minor league card cited in the article went for $9,000. The rarer police version went for over $60k. I was under the impression that minor league cards were didn't get a lot of hobby love, regardless of scarcity and the caliber of the player, but seeing these numbers seems to indicate otherwise.

Your average minor league is well. going to bae available at very reasonable (cheap) prices

Like so much in this hobby, if you have high grade superstar cards and in these cases they are amongst the very first cards issued of Mr. Ripken there is a significant value. If it's a middle infielder who stalled at AA, well then your best chance of selling those cards are on a place like EBay or COMC (plug there) which has a wider audience for these cards. The most likely people to buy the 2nd tier cards are family members or team/organization collectors.

As I said in the Dan McKee thread, both outcomes can be true at the same time

I would like to think that there is value in the first minor league cards of some modern, likely Hall of Famers as well. Mike Trout's minor league cards have already run up significantly, but the minor league cards for likely first-ballot guys like Pujols and Betts seem more accessible.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these stars' minor league cards are far more authentically scarce than the myriad rookie cards that are printed by the major card companies, and they are indeed the players' actual first cards.
