Hmmmm. I guess I should have checked further down the page from the Kelly's Potato Chips of Austria.

Here's a couple recent pick ups. I'm hoping someone can help me out with one of them. Is the Cubs pin from 1969? Also, is it scarce? I haven't seen one like before that I can remember. Thanks in advance for any info you can supply!

Edit: I just realized the date was tough to read on the Denver pin, it's April 26,1905.

The Cubs pin is not scarce, but it is tough to find. I believe it was sold sometime in the early to mid 1960s.

Hey Mike - how can it be both “not scarce, but tough to find”?

Rob, it’s just my own made up definition. Scarce to me is something which takes 10 years to find. Tough is more like 6 months to a year.

Overstreet's definitions which have been in use since the very early 1970's:

Scarce: 20-100 copies estimated to exist
Rare: 10-20 copies estimated to exist.

This is something I have. I'm fairly sure it's football and not baseball, but I'm not 100% on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

Paul Muchinsky's book classifies it as baseball. His had a baseball hanger. The football and baseball teams both occupied the Polo Grounds for many years. While the color scheme would suggest football, the baseball Giants went through a ton of uniform colors. I have always thought the vendors sold many of the same pins in both seasons. My display case shows many that could "work" for either team.

Thanks Rob!! I was talking to Ted Hake and he asked someone he knew about the pin as well. They said that Paul Muchinsky had discussed it with him and came around to the idea it was football related rather than baseball. Mostly because of the colors. Also, another prominent member here thought it was political rather than sports.
I'm beginning to think maybe it was multi-purpose and sold at different events as suggested by another member as well as yourself.

Rob, your NY Giants vs All Stars is for sure football. Clearly that refers to the College All Stars playing the NFL Champs.

Good to know. I never considered that. These days, an NFL team would destroy a one off team of college kids. Not back then?

This picture has a few of the black box football pins from the early 1970s, including one for Chris Hanburger that I don't recall seeing before.

Went to an event here in Richmond today called the totally rad vintage Fest or something. Apparently it’s a thing that goes around the country with vendors selling stuff from the 80s to the 2000s like half of the concert T-shirts I still have in my closet.

I saw one vendor had a bunch of pinback buttons and patches and things like that. I looked quickly in the rack of pinback buttons assuming they would all be new and started seeing some of the old Sweet Caporal flag buttons mixed in so I realized that there was a good mix of stuff in there.

I started combing through the thousands of buttons in the rack and the Newcombe PM10 was my first find. I got all of these for $4 each. I did pass up an old AFL Miami Dolphins pinback because the toning on it was terrible but I thought for $4 each, I did pretty well on these.

Anyone see this type of set up for a pinback? They're using a bobby pin. I don't remember seeing this type before.

Found a 1928 Saint Louis Cardinals pin back made from the Saint Louis Button Co. at an estate sale. Believe to be authentic just from the age on the back.

I’ve seen examples of this pin back in this forum, but don’t believe I’ve ever seen the back to compare. Any feedback on the authenticity would be appreciative.

Thank you for the quick response! I had done my research online of past auctions around the internet, but couldn’t find a picture of the back. This definitely helps!

Default 28' Cardinals

Hi Ed,
I thought you may be interested in seeing a back-paper variation of the button you posted. I've never seen any variation in the 30+ years of owning this one.

Famous-Barr was a St. Louis based department store. I also posted another button that I got from the same seller. A little generic but because it was with the Cards pin, I've gotta believe it was from the same series.

Didn’t realize there would be a variant to this nearly 100 year old pin, but glad I know now. I’m sure the Saint Louis Button Co. made these for Famous-Barr to sell.It was a sad day when Macy’s bought them in the early 2000s.

Default 1970s Baltimore Orioles Pins

Recently found Boog Powell pin to match my other three (Brooks Robinson, Palmer, Frank Robinson). There is a larger sized Boog. Have not seen the larger Boog in person but have seen on Net54 in past. These are very hard to find.

Thanks Rob ... That's my thinking on it too. I just can't find that exact logo tied to the club anywhere.
