Time for some branding. Next year, call the event "CardFestivus!"

Instead of on a message board, you can have an in-person "airing of collectors' grievances," and the "feats of strength" would be a measure of whose case of collectibles was the strongest in the room.
Additionally, every great (and not so great) card could be labeled as a "CardFestivus miracle!!"

Seems there’s the flu + norovirus spreading around the northern east coast. That’s what at least kept me from displaying at / attending this wonderful event.

Until next year. Andrew & Ryan, please let me know if you ever need help w/ this event. I’m here & ready to help with anything.

The day was a feast of eye-candy and trying to digest it all was a visual challenge during the few hours we had. That’s why Sammy’s video is an important document—thank you, Sammy, and good to meet you. The conversations were worth the price of admission (free), and will continue for months/years (hello Jamie S).

A few of the highlights for me included having the world’s PCL authority, Mark Macrae, in the room to share his passion and knowledge. Joe T’s latest Mantle piece was breathtaking (I was too shy to ask him for his autograph), as was Dan McKee’s Wajo binder. There were only a few of us with Negro League material but the items Jim C. and Jamie S. shared were incredibly special. Scott M’s Crofts collection may be among the finest in captivity. Etc., etc., etc., etc. Oh, and best prize for display goes to Steve H! Even Leon was there to monitor the goings-on.

Thanks to Goldin Auctions for the hospitality.

But the real genius behind the day belongs to our welcoming hosts, Ryan and Andrew who may be launching new careers as promoters--they do it well! The friendliness and willingness to share they encouraged is a breath of fresh air in a hobby that often lacks the pure joy of sharing our passions with like-minded individuals.

I look forward to next year’s event and hanging out!

Cheers,
Mike
Yes, indeed! That "Mick Mantle" letter was spectacular. I am pretty sure I audibly gasped when I saw it. What a find!

I have attended all of these get togethers, and they keep getting better and better. Kudos to Andrew and Ryan for doing all that it takes to make this such a successful event, and kudos to Joe T./Goldin Auctions for their contribution.

Viewing the incredible eye candy in the show cases was only exceeded by meeting and chatting with many of the notable pre-War card collectors in our hobby. I'm already excited for next year's get together!

Great event: amazing cards on display and a fun, knowledgeable group of people to hang out with.

My only major pickup was the flu. Maybe we can run a post-event flu poll. (Kidding, please don't)

I started feeling sick Monday night, and have been "under the weather" ever since - sore throat, nasel congestion, etc. Tested negative for covid. I'm an old fart, so maybe I should wear a face mask next year.

Val,
Your symptoms are the same as mine. Came home Sunday & felt great until late Monday. Have been in bed most of the time since then. Good luck in recovery to all those visitors at last Saturday's gathering. Its a bad flu

I can't blame the get together for my cold. 1) There's no fever so it's not the flu that everyone else came home with and 2) I didn't start to feel it until yesterday.

One of the folks in the office has kids that are home from school sick, I'm blaming them.

Andrew and Ryan,

Thank you for hosting this. It was quite enjoyable. I was happy to share some of my Olympic photography with those that attended.

I saw one large trade made

I made a small, but neat trade with Mike after he showed me a great piece at the get together. I will post my item unless Mike checks the thread again.

I traded two Negro League All Star tickets (48 & 49), a minor league game involving Ray Dandridge and a Thomas Gutierrez card.

Thank you, that is appreciated. What was shown as less than 1/100th of 1% of my collection. I am the odd collector even in the Olympic collecting community. Most collect pins, medals, torches, diplomas etc. I fit between the collectors and historians. I am also a life member of the International Society of Olympic Historians.

Yes, Jamie and I made a fun trade that included, on my end, this Acebo matchbox with card intact. A pretty cool item that I suspect is very ephemeral.

Thanks, Jamie!

Oh, and I should add that I got the cold version of the bug this past Friday and feel like so much poop today. It was still a great event, though!

Cheers,
Mike
