Default Is there anything that can't get graded?

Posted By: Fred C

Please, for my sanity, lets not kick me in the face for "outing an auction". The below auction is for a graded notebook cover:

http://cgi.ebay.com/C-1910-TRIS-SPEAKER-PLAY-BALL-NOTEBOOK-COVER-SGC-1-1_W0QQitemZ300165588104QQihZ020QQcategoryZ57993QQs sPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Without mentioniong the company that encapsulates magazine cut-outs can anybody tell me the oddest thing they've seen encapsulated by SGC, PSA or GAI?

Saw a drivers license of a celebrity slabbed by GAI in an auction

Personally, I dont see any problem encapsulating a notebook cover. Its got a player on the cover, its not graded (given only an Auth) and its a collectible piece. Not much different than a postcard in my opinion (other than size).

So my question is: What is more collectible, the full notebook with cover or just the cover? I can't see SGC grading the complete notebook.

I first heard of graders of beanie babies about seven years ago, and I still find the concept strange (the grading of beanie babies, no me hearing of things).

I saw a GAI graded tintype, though they identified it accurately and the tintype did fit well in the holder-- so I don't object.

Steve's point is an interesting one. To registry folks, the cover may be more valuable if only it can be entombed.

Another question is whether a whole notebook is better with blank pages or filled with a kid's homework (I'd pick homework).

Silly me. I should have saw the "Authentic" label. It really didn't receive a "numerical" grade. I suppose if it were the ENTIRE notebook it could have gotten a numerical grade

Hey, they got it right this time. Since this was detatched (and not a complete notebook) the graders gave it an "A". I wonder why they don't do this with cards that have had the coupons clipped from them. Cards like Zeenuts and Redman's should only get a grade of A if they have been trimmed (removing the coupon is trimming in my opinion). Ok, that would be a different thread.

Josh, I have a recollection of a recent Cobb notebook cover being graded and recently on Ebay. I'm not sure how I feel about this as it is becomes a slippery slope at some point.

I think SGC has changed their stance only in the last few years with respect to grading cards that had coupons and now don't. I sent in a D381 Wood without coupon, 3-4 years ago, and they sent it back saying they don't do them without coupons....but they have since changed their stance and even said I could get a free grading for it. I do agree with you though...Personally, I think any strip card and any card that had a coupon, and now doesn't, should get an AUT only....I still don't like the fact many get numerical grades and no "handcut" designation with the grade (if you must numerically grade at all)...just my small rant for the day.......regards

There does appear to be no limit as to what is being slabbed. Personally, I like the notebook kept as a whole.

I draw the line when they start grading turds and give qualifiers for corn, etc.

GAI will probably encapsulate anything...I was speaking of SGC not encapsulating skinned OJ's. I'm really surprised to see them encapsulate a notebook cover.

Funny that a couple of uncatalogued Chance and Kling caramel cards with blank backs that appear like E96s but have different team names thus indicating a later date of printing, can't get slabbed and frigging notebook covers can. Unreal. The Chance card is pictured in SCD but can't get graded, even authentic. You tell me...

SGC refused to grade my R309-1 Babe Ruth (due to thickness?) so there's something at least SGC wouldn't grade, and that's a legit offering.

As of last year they wouldnt grade these.....

Yet they use to misidentify these cards as "proofs" in the old SGC slabs.
