Default Black Sox Newspaper

GREAT BOLD Headline Newspaper regarding the Black Sox (vintage original from 1921)

Shoeless Joe and the boys were found Not Guilty in a court of law, but we all know a few days later baseball commissioner Judge Kennesaw Mountain Landis would ban the infamous 8 for life from baseball.

This will flatten out nicely if put behind a glass frame.

Are you sure this isnt a reprinted newspaper. I have the exact same one which is reprinted and not original. If you open it up and read the pages if it is a reprinted paper it will have an ad for their reprinted historical papers in it

Ya check between pages 10 and 11 there should be a full double sided page advertising the reproduction newspapers. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

This one doesn't have that page.

And the pages are very brittle, like other old newspapers I've handled. So if its a repro, dang its a good one.

Other then that page in yours, could you tell if yours is more modern paper. I've seen some Titanic ones and with those its obvious. This one is far from obvious.

I'm going to see if I can find the seller of this one and see 1. where he is from, and 2. any feedback regarding newspapers.

I lean toward its good until its proven otherwise.

Seller was Estate-Finders formerly SCGAYNOR, I'm pretty sure they are legit since 1997 and 18,220 feedback. Although always possible to slip one by the goalie.

Is your also very brittle with lots of chipping like mine?

The front pages of ours look identical Mine also looks very vintage. Mine had at one time a sticker on the front page top right corner over the "The Weather" box. Mine has the exact same little puncture marks on the bottom of the front page as yours. What are the odds that one is a vintage reproduction and the other that is identical isnt. I will take a close up photo like you did of the top of page 11...they are identical in spots where ink is missing from the letters. Yours is a good reproduction just like mine is. I bought it on ebay several years ago. Im guessing some just took out the middle ad page for the service from yours.

Ive been collecting 1919 White Sox and Reds stuff for about 30 years now and have many authentic newspapers, this is a good reproduction but none the less a reproduction.

Notice the yellowing around the edges of mine and the paper loss in the very middle of the center fold. All very convincing and remember it is probably printed in the early 90s and papers over 10 years old will get brittle and fade.

I do see that MEARS sold one last year for $110. That looks identical to both of ours. Like I said mine looks and feels authentic, but it isnt and the insert in mine seals it for me. I think MEARs got conned by someone

I will add as a side note I sent many of my newspapers including this one in to ESPN for them to use for their Sports Century program Remembering the Black Sox and it can be seen in the show.

here is a good link talking about collecting newspapers and mentions the company that made these reprints
http://www.historicpages.com/nprqna.htm

Company was apparently operating in the 1980s making these convincing reprints.

M-C Associates, 11910 Lafayette, Silver Springs, MD

Wow, good research and info. I only paid 30 bucks so not a biggee. A friend of mine said he'd take it to hang in his Sox mancave so may just give it to him now. Thanks again for the info.
