Maybe your package is hoping to vote in the primaries after its vacation through Massachusetts?

If it's on a tour, it isn't picking great destinations, that's for sure. My only theory is maybe the label got damaged and the zip code isn't reading right or something.

I’ve had a couple packages do this the last year, always gets to me eventually but sometimes it’s just baffling the journey it took and the several times it goes to the wrong place. Crazy

It's weird. Once a package goes off course, it often stays there for a while, not sure why that is. If it starts heading back west I am gonna be pissed.

I have several every year that take tours. Not long ago I send a package to California from South Dakota and for some reason it went through Hawaii. I have actually had that trip happen more than once.

I once had a letter that took nearly a year to get to me (California to Canada). It showed up with a Filopino postmark. The sender was an older former athlete that has never been to that part of the world.

Default just happened

Won a Net54 auction.... cards arrived in a few days in Jacksonville, Florida (where I am) from Boston.... then after 5 more days of saying "delivery delayed" .... tracking shows it was now in Puerto Rico!! Had a happy ending when a few days later it made it back to Jacksonville and now delivered to me safely. Go figure....

And yet the one I sent to PR earlier this month bounced between the regional center and the airport center four times in a week before finally getting on a flight.

One more USPS pin ball job. A few years back a package containing this nifty postcard was sent from Seattle to Victoria BC, 75 miles as the crow flies, with stops along the way in New York, Atlanta and freakin' Qatar. Took 87 days. Sent by Registered Mail no less. Go figure.

This will turn into a Twilight Zone episode if Peter receives Eric's package and vice versa...

What's mind boggling is that they've tracked it so well and the appearance is that the packages are not lost, just in some kind of limbo and (hopefully) soon to be delivered.

Looking forward to hearing a positive outcome for both of you, but would rather read about the Twilight Zone finish to this.

Once it got to T.F. Green and sent to the Providence distribution center it should have been easy. The post office sends trucks up 95 to the Boston area. Routing it up Rte 146 to Shrewsbury makes no sense. Shrewsbury to Boston is logical as the USPS at Ft. Point Channel is the major sort facility for eastern MA. But the misdirection from there is comical: Chelsea to Brookline then Nashua. Brookline should have caught it at that point and redirected to Newton. It was almost a tease. "We are sending it north then we will bring it to the next town over then out of state!"

Where in Newton do you live? I grew up in Waltham. Southeast side behind the Calvary Cemetery. Walked to West Newton to the movie theatre. Played softball at Albemarle and used that pool in the summer.

My item finished its second tour of Chicago and now sits in Wilmington, Delaware. Either way, its next trip should take it north. Let's see just how far north it goes...

I think the furthest misdirection for myself by USPS was with an eBay auction. I live in Birmingham, Mi, the sorting clerk in one of the stations decided no such place existed and sent it to Birmingham, England. That was a many stops and several months delivery from a simple couple states away.

On December 5th, someone mailed me a baseball pennant from Pa to Va. It was postmarked on Dec. 20th and finally arrived on Jan. 12th!

On Nov. 30th, I mailed a check from Va. to Pa. It still hasn't arrived.

USPS sucks.

Showed up today. No clue why the issue, preprinted label everything in order. I get going off track once, put in wrong bin or whatever, but why it kept going to the wrong place time after time makes no sense.

We should add to our N54 collectorisms dictionary a term (if it’s not alreay there) for when USPS, or eBay, states that your item will arrive Today!.... but you can clearly see that it is still sitting in a Regional Distribution Center 4 states away.

With this thread being about USPS mishaps, this may or may not be a good time and place to remind folks of the USPS rate increases that go into effect this coming Sunday, as follows:

"Starting Jan. 21, 2024, the price for a First-Class Forever U.S. Postage Stamp will increase from 66 cents to 68 cents. USPS Ground Advantage prices will increase by 5.4 percent, Priority Mail service prices will increase by 5.7 percent, and Priority Mail Express service prices will increase by 5.9 percent."

A good, related story from 30 years ago:

As most know, in Canada, we have postal codes as opposed to zip codes. They are six letters and numbers, separated by a space after the first three characters.

In the east end of my city, one of the postal codes starts with N5W, so an examplle would be N5W 3L4.

Someone I know in that postal code was awaiting a letter that never seemed to arrive. Finally, after who knows how long, it did. Looking at one of the postmarks, it had been diverted to New South Wales, Austraila. Someone at Canada Post saw "N5W" and mistook it for New South Wales. I guarantee you that worker was Australian, because nobody else on this continent would make such a mistake. Most non-Australians have barely heard of New South Wales, let alone would their minds immediately mistake that postal code for an abbreviation of a place on the other side of the planet.

The place I worked for once got a piece of mail stamped "missent to Beijing"

For a while I was getting mail for someone in a different part of town, our zip codes had a different last digit. Their handwriting made the Post offices sorting OCR read the 2 as a 1.

Then there's the classic and apparently common return for international postage on packages to New Mexico.....

Jan 20th today... with nuttin. Small Priority box heading the SGC. 3 hours into it's tour it showed "Counterfeit Postage", meaning the package was confiscated and will not be delivered or returned. It was mailed with my Stamps.com account. never an issue in 21 years. Then, the next day showed delivery expected 1-16. Now this ALL week.

Stamps.com/USPS had a glitch with this "Counterfeit Postage BS" and who knows where my package is at or if it will be lost or delivered. Stamps.com calls it a "resolved incident". I have an inquiry with USPS, complaint with Stamps.com but as you would imagine, nobody cares. Hoping it's the weather and it comforting to see there are so many issues with the priority mail system. sorry to everyone. Here's to a better week guys. good luck to everyone.

My item arrived, safe and sound. It didn't wind up being delivered to Peter.

It was a small package with supplies (graded card sleeves) in it. So, it doesn't have any "Large Ass Herzog" travel stories.
