Default 1941 Play Ball Question

Checked my Play Ball set. DCWD Dennis nailed it: 1-24 Blony, the rest "watch for other famous sports stars" with a mix of copyright symbol with and without 1941.

Default 1941 Play Ball Question

Posted By: Dave Hornish

Spending the day surfing the web and I found a reference to a variation of some 1941 Play Ball cards. Instead of the line under SPORTS HALL OF FAME reading "Watch for other famous sports stars...." on the reverse, the variation states Also ask for Blony Super Bubble Gum...".

You can see the differences below in the scans I just stole off the web (forgive the double Klein). I never realized this. Is each card available with both backs or does this follow the Copyright/No Copyright (low series/high series) progression?

Default 1941 Play Ball Question

Posted By: Bill Todd

At the Reading show I saw someone who had what he called "1942" PlayBalls. They were the 1941s with no date after the copyright symbol. He had numbers all through the range. Any possibility that they were issued in two years?

Bill

all cards 1 thru 48 come with the 1941 following the c.(copyright) all 72 cards come with the c alone. they very well might have been reissued or still sold into 1942 seeing as there were no "new" cards issued.

I have one Blony, #24 (Dutch Leonard). The other four are all "Watch for," beginning with #46.

And, as with yours, the "Blony" has (C)1941, and the others just (C).
