Default Scanning Templates/Frames ?

Greetings.

What do any of you use when scanning cards to ensure that the card(s) is/are straight on your scanner's surface while also making sure it's far enough away from the edges to capture the entire card? I did some scanning last night and found myself fighting to keep the cards straight, etc.

Suggestions?

Use the photo software on your computer to crop and straighten the card.

I'd rather not have to do the extra step on every scan.

Believe it or not, Legos. lol Just make an L shape. Quite easy to take off the glass without disturbing the card placement.

Hmmm... that seems pretty simple. Now if I just had some Legos laying around...

Walk around barefoot in the dark and you'll find them.

Some scanning software lets you toggle the frame after your prescan so you can match up the frame to your card, so even when it's crooked on the scanner bed it will come out straight after your scan.

I use Silverfast 8 software, and I think it's compatible with most flatbed scanners.

I have been using Legos for years to help scan graded cards straight in order to save the extra step of straightening images, works great.

I use ultra pro tobacco card inserts pressed against the side edges and then scan graded and raw cards in one touches with the cases slid up against the inserts.

For larger or smaller than normal sized issues I stole a mini ruler from my kids and then line the card up in the center of the scanner and then remove the ruler.

I’ve been meaning to buy cheap poor SGC copies of random pre-war sized cards to use the gaskets for raw scanning but I haven’t got around to it yet.

If it's a single card, I just quickly pop my phone onto the scanner bed, and push it either to the top or to the side and slide the card against it. And removing the phone is simple, so it doesn't mess up the now-perfect orientation.

I used to have the same problem with keeping cards straight on the scanner.

I ended up using a 12” ruler against the right edge of the scanner surface and placing the item to be scanned up against the ruler - then removing the ruler before scanning. Works well for me.

I have always used another Slabbed card (PSA, SGC, whatever) along the bottom edge of my scanner - then set the the slab to be scanned along the top edge of that 1st slab - then simply remove the 1st reference slab (real similar to lego method)
