I posted hits once before but was thinking about Greinke since with the season ending I'm wondering if he has pitched his last game.

Looking up the date of this game I discovered it was also the game that Reggie Jackson's number was retired for the A's. It was also the A's 3000th win as the Oakland A's. (Obviously they played in Philadelphia and KC before moving to Oakland.)

Great stuff as always, Jeff!

As you already know, I won this lineup card in Lelands last night, and at a great price. I think it slid under the radar.

Very nice pick-up, these are not easy to find.

I picked up my first line-up card in a mixed lot of collectibles a little while ago. It's from the Pirates in April 1976.

Looks like 4/30/1976

Dave Parker's 6th career HR.

Very cool.

9/10/1951 Yankees lineup card

Features a rookie Mickey Mantle in right field playing next to Joe DiMaggio in the latter's 10th to last (regular season) game.

One of 3 Mantle/DiMaggio lineup cards from 1951 known to still exist.

Sometimes you go into a game knowing it could be important. Maybe it is the debut of a highly touted prospect. Or it is the final game of the season with playoff implications

Other times you don't know before, but you figure it out during the game. Maybe a big star gets 4 home runs, or a pitcher pitches a no-hitter.

Other times, the significance of a moment is only noticable some time later.

On August 22, 2023, Mike Trout returned from injury. He played one game and returned to the injured list for the remainder of the season.

At the end of the year, Shohei Ohtani signed with the Dodgers.

The result is that this game represents the final time that Trout and Ohtani played together as teammates. Likely the final time their names will ever be penciled in on the same 'official batting order' card.

Was flipping through some of my oldest lineup cards yesterday and decided to take them out and take a group picture.

Seeing them together is a reminder of how little regard they were given. Meant to be used and tossed. Today, 80-90 years later, the few that remained are generally worn, ripped, stapled, stained, dirty, faded etc.

For me, they tell the story of baseball in a way that almost no other item can match. The player names, the substitutions, the manager's signature etc. All from in the action.

Lineup cards in the photo range from 1933-1944. 4 are WOrld Series linup cards. Manager signatures include Walter Johnson, Connie Mack, Joe Cronin, Joe McCarthy, Bill Terry and Bucky Harris. Some prominent names include Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Stan Musial, Jummie Foxx, Lefty Grove, Earl Averill, Mel Ott, Ernie Lombardi, Leo Durocher and many others both remembered and forgotten.

Super cool, thanks for sharing! I love seeing vintage lineup cards.

Looks like 5/27/1953 Boston Red Sox vs Philadelphia Athletics

Nice! Haren had a really strong career. 150+ wins, ERA+ 0f 109, 3 time All-Star. Do you collect Haren particularly? I think I have a couple of Haren win lineup cards from over the years. (Manager lineup cards.)

4/28/2001 Cardinals signed lineup card.

Pujols 8th career HR. He tied the rookie record for most homeruns in April (since surpassed by a number of players).

Signed by Albert Pujols and Tony LaRussa.

Here is the Rangers copy of their dugout lineup card from 09/23/21 when they visited Camden Yards.

It's a long story, but it took awhile for to arrive (the Orioles copy was never made available) however the game holds personal significance to me because my son performed the National Anthem (sax solo) that evening for the first time in a MLB park.

I'm going to mat/frame it with a few photos and a ticket (yes, I was able to buy a physical ticket that night!) and will surprise him with it for an upcoming birthday:

That's super cool and more meaningful than any player milestone. Post a pic when you get it matted and framed!

Default Nolan Ryan final career win #324 dugout card

I'm happy to have finally got around to completing a framed project that I've been thinking about.

Here is the original dugout card from HOF Nolan Ryan's last career win on 8/15/93 @ CLE at now defunct Municipal Stadium.
Nolan signed and inscribed the dugout card 6-8 years ago.
The snapshots were taken during Nolan's warmup prior to this game.
Up on the wall above my desk where I can enjoy it every day.
I love it!

That is killer. Your framed pieces really bring out the best in the items.

I was able to purchase a small collection (6 pieces) of 1960's Yankees lineup cards from the son of a former boxer who also did some security gigs. He sent me a picture of him and his Dad with Roger Maris.

The collection included these 3:
  • Mantle HR
  • Maris HR
  • Johnny Keane (manager) signed lineup card. He managed the Yankees for just a few games more than one season. I don't believe I have ever seen a Keane signed lineup card before.
