Default Second Annual Mid-Atlantic Trade Day & Get Together

Andrew and I are happy to announce that we will be holding another collector get together in Chantilly Virginia.

The Date: February 10, 2024
Location: 1757 Golf Club- 45120 Waxpool Road, Dulles, VA 20166
Time: 11am - 5pm

We expect this event will be similar to, but bigger than, the prior event. While not mandatory, the emphasis will be on vintage (especially pre war) baseball cards, but variety is welcome. Tables and chairs will be provided, but bring your cards and your display cases. Its a great opportunity to socialize, trade, buy, and sell cards with like-minded collectors.

There is no cost to attend; there is no cost to set up; although we may choose a charity and ask for discretionary donations.

Last year we had at least 20 different displays and at least 50 different attendees. We had visitors from NY to Virginia; we would love to expand the size and geographic representation.

The location is very close to Dulles International Airport, the Udvar Hazy Air and Space Museum, and just outside Washington DC. Its a great excuse/opportunity visit the area. More updates and reminders will be provided as we get closer to game time.

Here are some pictures from last year.

We hope you can join us!

Andrew and Ryan

Default can't wait

I am so excited this is happening again. While I was only there for a few hours the last time, I loved meeting everyone and seeing cards that blew me away. Ping me back if you want any help with anything. Happy to volunteer any way I can to alleviate some of the effort that goes into this. Just sign me up!

Sounds like a great event and very interested in attending. The time of year is the one thing that will hold me back. I live in central Florida and the climate difference from possibly 30’s to 60’s/70’s in one day and the likelihood of getting sick because of the extreme weather change will prevent me from making the trip. I would think that a spring event would be ideal, maybe May/June if that is ever a possibility. Summer with vacations and traffic build-up might not be quite as appealing. I hope that all goes well for those who are able to attend and would love to hear the recap afterwards.

Thanks Andrew & Ryan! Looking forward to attending again!

For those not familiar with the area, the street address Ryan mentioned in his initial post is actually deemed to be in Sterling, VA, which is a few mile north of Chantilly (where the Chantilly Card Show is held). And, it is just off Route 28, which is pretty much a north-south interstate highway, although it isn't designated as such - it is the same Route 28 that goes by the Chantilly Show.

Dan, why not do both events? Just tell the Silver Spring promoter that you have another committment and have to scoot early (say 12:30 or 1 p.m - you won't make any sales after this time anyway ). It's a fairly quick drive from Silver Spring to the Net54 get together, which runs until 5 p.m. And, so that us good Net54 folks would have more time to view spectacular cards from your personal collection, I'm thinking that Ryan will be glad to stop by the Silver Spring show on his way around the beltway to the Net54 get together and pick up a couple of locked showcases of cards from your pc to entertain us until you arrive. As the old expression goes, "be there or be square!"

I'm thinking how great it would be if this event were to evolve into the Annual Net54 Pre-War National!

Thanks, Ryan. I wish my wife would say this to me once in a while!

Because there is so much to see and do in the DC area, I'm thinking that an annual event also would be popular with the non-collector wives and children.

Default Mid-Atlantic Trade Day

Ryan/Andrew - JoeT here and it sounds like this event was a huge hit last year. I wish I could make it, but a 12-13 hour round trip drive is just a bit too much for a one day 6-hour event. Wish I lived closer. Congrats to both of you for putting together such a popular gathering!

While I'm more of a post war collector, I definitely would love to make one of these! Familial circumstances have me locked into home for the next couple of months, but maybe 2025 will be on the table. My experiences meeting members from the board have been nothing but positive so far!

Default Second Annual Mid-Atlantic Trade Day & Get Together

In an effort to help a very worthwhile cause, Ryan and I have chosen Wolf Trap Animal Rescue (https://www.wtarescue.com/) as a charity to support, in connection with our trade day/get together.

The mission of this organization is to rescue high-risk dogs and cats, mainly from Mississippi, where young animals are euthanized by the hundreds every day. Since 2015, WTAR has successfully rescued over 12,000 dogs and cats, and transported them to the DC area. After being bathed, vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered, they are placed in foster homes until they find their forever homes through local adoption events. The transport of animals from Mississippi occurs on a nearly weekly basis. My family adopted our dog Bo (photos below) through WTAR, and donate to them frequently.

Our get together is free to attend, however, voluntary donations will be accepted at the event, with all proceeds going directly to WTAR, which is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization (EIN: 47-5126237). I would encourage you all, whether attending our event or not, to donate to this very worthwhile cause. For those of you who prefer to donate directly to WTAR, that can be done easily through their website.

Scott, To avoid being complicit in a murder, there will be no puppies at the event.

Josh, I hope you will be able to attend one of these in the future...

The dog would be fine. She has no self-restraint where they're concerned either. Where I'm concerned is a different story

Andrew,
This is awesome. I sure wish I was able to attend this event and meet some awesome collector, I’ve yet to meet and see amazing cards and collections. I can however give back a little to the organization. Thanks and god bless.

Thank you Ryan and Andrew for doing this for us!

We need an original type 1 Conlon photo used as the image for some cards,,,

If this "get together" gets legs -- grows year over year for a few years, Andrew and I may seek to convert it into the "Vintage National".

How we define "vintage" would be up for debate, but I am thinking all sports, all types of stuff (cards, photos, memorabillia, etc) from 1979 or earlier. Ozzie Smith Ok, Rickey Henderson not OK.

Ryan and Andrew,

Congratulations on putting together your 2nd Annual event, I'm sure a fun time will be had by everybody.

I sent a donation to Wolf Trap with the caveat that you guys keep an eye out for any Bender white cap rare backs for me.

Enjoy!

I wanted to attend and bring non-baseball!!! (Oh God, lock the doors quickly and keep quiet!!). Unfortunately, one of the Christmas presents to my wife was a weekend at a Hilton in Arlington, VA which has one of the only executive lounges in the U.S. Our upstairs neighbors are obnoxious when sports is on. Not just yelling, but dropping the f-bomb. She asked for this so she got it.

I should be able to attend next year as we are closing on our new house in Fredericksburg in 3 weeks. Looking forward to that. The basement is a 1400 sq. ft. 5 room apartment with full kitchen. Since I work from home she suggested I turn that into an office and use it for whatever I want including my Olympic and Concert photo archives. Lots of wall space.

Enjoy!

Looks incredible. Thanks for sharing photos. Hoping it happens again next year and that maybe I can make it.

Thanks

Thanks again to Andrew and Ryan for organizing/hosting!

An unreal collection of history in that room.

Had a really fun time meeting Hank Thomas and so many others.

Feel like I saw several years-worth of pre-war auctions in the span of 2.5 hours.

Lot of stuff I've never seen before and may never see again.

Almost got a couple of trades done--hopefully next year.

Sorry for the quality of the attached pictures, but these were some of my favorite items.

Another fantastic meetup

So glad to see so many amazing collectors and collections in one place

It was like being in the Louvre museum equivalent for prewar baseball cards

Thanks to Ryan and Andrew and anyone else involved in putting this together again. For a second year in a row, it was well worth the drive up from Richmond! Such amazing stuff!

I bet I could guess which case is Val's, although I didn't see the Hughie Jennings shirt in the photos.

I wish they would do something like this (with cases full of the cards in the first post) in southern California. Total eye candy in those cases.

Phil & Chad, thanks for noticing my display of WaJo cards. I showed as many of my scarcer ones by cramming as many as I could into the display by overlaying/underlaying them.

Phil, I didn't wear Jennings-back-run T-shirt this year, but I did have it draped over a chair back for folks to see.

So much amazing, Ppe-War eye candy in the room! Many thanks to Andrew & Ryan for again putting on this fun event.
