Cool piece of history!
I'm betting that the auction house would have preferred the paper left out this line:
"Another $100,000 Yankees check from Dec. 30, 1921, will hit the auction block in December."

IMO, it's early publicity for the higher amount check, probably to be auctioned by the same people.

I agree, but I would think a 1 of 1 would bring in more then a 1 of 2.

My recollection from what I've read is that Colonel Ruppert paid his half of the $100,000 with a check, the earliest of these two. Ruppert's partner and co-owner of the Yankees, Tillinghast L'Hommedieu Huston, paid with 50 one thousand dollar bills.

I am not certain of that, but I think that's what happened. Surely there's a Yankee fan who knows enough team history to verify that.

Regardless of the auction hype, this is a very cool item. Any guess on where it will end up $$$-wise?

Frank- the story you are refering to is regarding the 1914 purchase of the Yankees.

On December 31st, at the Hotel Wolcott, Col. Ruppert & Col. Huston bought the Yankees for $450,000.

Ruppert brought his attorney and a certified check for his half...

Huston came alone, reached into his pocket, pulled out a huge roll of cash and proceeded to count out 225 thousand-dollar bills...
