Default October Pickup Thread

Kicking off the October thread with a card that arrived from REA yesterday. Rube was quickly cracked out of his slab, the 12th T3 in an SGC slab that I've cracked so far. Scans at the bottom are post-cracking. He looks so much better out in the open very happy to be the new owner.

Picked up a Churchman's Ruth. Considering whether or not to send it to SGC instead. Only problem is the grade will drop if I do, but at least they'll put his name on the flip and at least it'll be in a tux. Decisions, decisions... Either way, I love this card.

Looks like the max file size I am able to upload is 19.5kb. That's a pretty small allowance for uploading images of cards. Am I doing this wrong?

Picked up this really nice looking Aaron rookie. It’s a PSA 2 because of the light tape stain on the back. Has the eye appeal of a PSA 5.

I love cards like this where the eye appeal is so drastically out of line with the number on the slab. Great card!

You can’t go wrong with any Wolverine rookie Cobb PC, and congrats Pete. Since you and Jeff won’t let me buy any Cobb cards, I have to zag to a non sports card of Walt Disney before they become to expensive to buy.

Awesome card! I would vote to keep in the PSA holder but to each his own. That's one of my favorite Ruth cards and certainly one that is below the radar!

Here are some major recent additions (purchased on Sept but not scanned in until October)

First, here is an Old Mill Red Cobb I purchased from Jay from The Monster Podcast in a smooth deal. It's my replacement for that PSA 3 that FedEx destroyed and I think it looks awesome!

1909_Cobb_1 by boosandpearl, on Flickr

Also added a WaJo from ebay. Card looks pretty strong for the grade in my opinion:

1909_Johnson_1 by boosandpearl, on Flickr

I also grabbed a DeLong Cuyler for my Cubs PC:

1933_DeLong_Cuyler_1 by boosandpearl, on Flickr

Thanks for the look and happy collecting!

From the recent Sterling Sports auction

My T-206 Cleveland team set is down to two cards : Elmer Flick and Cy Young glove showing

This Cy was a considerable multiple of the $20 I paid for the portrait Cy Young in a long ago Frank Nagy auction. 😀

Terrific picture, Patrick. Nice equipment. Kid didn't work in the coal mines. You've been growing that catcher collection for a long time now. I have enjoyed the ride.

Added the “partial B” variation of Cy Barger to my T205 Brooklyn set. This completes my set, aside from the much more difficult Kaiser Wilhelm card, which I don’t expect to add.

Will have a better sense once I see the Barger card in hand but it may be a “green border” as well.

Thanks. I used to have a lot of Cuban type cards but don't see me going full fledged again. I just thought the image was so cool I had to have it.

Here is a postcard, the only seen baseball player from the set, I posted in another thread that doesn't get looked at.
Not sure why a TPG wouldn't give it an A but it's a real postcard..
1909 postcard....(edited, not rookie)

Very happy to add this to my Herzog Boston back run. Thank you Chris for reaching out and working on a deal! Slightly more difficult back - 24 between PSA & SGC.

Been looking for one of these that looked decent and wouldn’t completely break the bank. Lo and behold, Greg Morris had just the ticket.

Thank you! I might have suspected it was another Net54er pushing my bid to the brink.

Great cards everyone. But where do you all find the Cabinets, Cuban cards, Postcards, etc? I check ebay, but most of what I see is reprints. Or do you just bide your time on eBay? Are there other avenues to buy cards besides there and here? Or is there somewhere else that does that type stuff (stuff I listed above)?

There are several ways to go (ebay is not one of the better options)

1. BST Section of this forum
2. Auction Houses (AuctionReport.com gives a list and schedule of upcoming and current auctions)
3. Network of contacts from net54 and other places done transactions with
4. Card Shows
5. Ebay
