Snagged this 1954 Dodgers tickets stub. Karl Spooner makes his debut and gets a 3 hit complete game shutout with 15 Ks! that is the record. Strasburg struck out 14 in his debut. I was at that game.

Thanks. I can't wait to get it in hand. This is my first trophy and really my first non card/photo pickup at any auction house. If you've done any research on it let me know. Shernan30@gmail.com

That stayed low for a very long time. I was high bidder for quite a while, then people started to wake up on it and I bowed out.

Me too. I was the high bidder late into the night, then got outbid by the winning bid. Gave some serious thought to firing one more time at it, but just couldn't do it. My last bid was $6500, which made it $7800 with bp (much more than any Ruth Batrite has gone for). But a great bat indeed...congrats to the winner. Hoping I don't regret this one...

Great bat Jim. Felix was my favorite. Got to tell him in spring training about 10 years ago that I still hate Ed Ott for what he did. Felix laughed. Still looked like he could field and stoke a hit over second base.

Great pick up.

I'm starting to get a few ticket stubs. For now, I'm trying to get one Hank Aaron home run game ticket stub for all 23 years that he played. I'll probably eventually expand this to include milestone games. Thanks Randall (mcgwirecom) for helping me take care of several years at one time. Just noticed that the my label on the last stub says 1975, but it should be 1976.

You are welcome. Once the hook is set on ticket collecting you will want to try and get them all. LOL I started collecting in 1998 innocently enough. McGwire looked like he was gonna hit 60+ homeruns so I decided to buy up tickets near the end of the year so I'd have the game he broke the record. then he went on a tear and I had to buy all of September to be safe. So I was happy I had #62 and #70. But i had some others too so I decided to get #60-70. I did that and then I decided to get the whole season. Then I tried to get full tickets only. Pretty tough since they tore them back then. Once I was almost finished I decided to get all his homeruns. Its the thrill of the chase! Now I have about a dozen different themes I am chasing.

All McGwire HRs
All Thome HRs
All Dunn HRs (thought he would make it to 500 but he quit on me!)
All Harper HRs
All Trout HRs

All Henderson 1982 stolen bases
All McLain 1968 wins
All Carlton 1972 Wins
All Story HRs from this year (rookie record?)
All Randy Johnson 15 Ks or higher

500th HRs
300th wins
3000th Ks
4 HR games
3 HR games
Perfect Games

500 HR Club milestones (1st, 100th, etc)
2002 A's 20 game win streak
Immaculate Innings (9 pitches 3 Ks)
Last K of a 300+ K season

Yes, very! I spent many hours before the season started trying to find out who had season tickets and who did not. Then the ones that don't you need to cover yourself for those games. I went and bought tickets to many games to ensure I would have them. The big blow was the Nationals. They stopped printing season tickets 3 years ago. But as a courtesy to the season ticket holders they would print them box office style if they asked. This year, no dice. I ordered tickets online but they, as some other teams do, let Tickets.com handle the online sales. No one likes a Tickets.com ticket. its like a Ticketmaster, no team logos. I tried to find someone who live near the ballpark to buy me tickets at the window. I couldn't find anyone in time so I drove 3 hours down and 3 hours back in the snow and sleet to buy half a seasons worth of tickets at the window so I'd have mine. That sucked. Some teams that have season tickets are still tough to find people to sell you one! I am having trouble finding a Reds season ticket holder who will sell me a few tickets that I may need this year.

I've been collecting McGwire homeruns the longest, maybe 15 years. Still need 26 more tickets. This type of collecting is not for people who like instant gratification. At first it seems like you will finish quickly because you are doing bulk deals for tickets. But after a while it turns to a trickle. Then nothing for a long time. You need to network with other ticket collectors, ask everyone about tickets, advertise, etc. Now when you find one ticket you need it is exciting!

I like taking on a big challenge. I know several collectors who have taken on bigger undertakings. Scott Garner who is on Net54 is collecting all Nolan Ryan game tickets. I also know of two guys collecting all Ripken streak games. Another collecting all Pete Rose hits. Another doing all Carlton Fisk games played. They are in it for the long haul.

Fortunately the ticket collector community is pretty friendly and networking with special collectors like Randall and Tony Swann (the Carlton Fisk collector that Randall referenced) is the only way that you will ever come close to completing crazy projects like these! Thanks Randall!
BTW, if you want to be mind blown, please check out Tony Swann's carltonfisk.com website. It's unreal!

I started out collecting tickets to Nolan Ryan pitched games in 1972 and thought it would be neat to find perhaps 100 of them.
Meanwhile, 44 years later I'm currently up to 753/807 of Nolan's regular season games plus his All Star appearances and post season games with the Mets.

Those of you that know me on net54 also know that I also collect the no-hitter theme, which was an offspring of Nolan Ryan becoming The No-Hit King with 7 career no-hitters. Currently I own tickets to 202 different official and unofficial no-hitters dating back to 1901. Chasing the current no-hitter game tickets is becoming a challenge because of the e-ticket fiasco that Randall described perfectly.

Default 1866 Base Ball Victorian era dance invitation

I was thrilled to pick this up from Scott Roberts on the BST this month.
Now that it's in hand, I've got to say that this is one of my favorite early baseball items that I own.
Thanks Scott!

That Kamm bat is extremely rare. It's only the 2nd I've ever seen. Great pickup.

Ron, I sold almost all of them. I had all but 8 or nine of the 50+ bats from the 1908-1925 time frame. Still have Fred Clarke gold medal, Cobb, Meyers and Doyle. Beautiful bats and the weights of some are extremely heavy reaching 50+ ounces.

Default Dixie Ice Cream Premium Send-In Salesmans Sample Proof ?

Default Baseball magazine premiums

Pretty excited to add this to the collection... Lot of 8 m114
Premiums including the 39 williams, in their original mailing envelope.

Based on the postage stamps, it looks like these were mailed to their original owner in 1942

Default Dixie Lid Premiums

I love those Dixie Lid Premiums. I think they are one of the most attractive and undervalued items. I have the eight of the baseball players in the series. I have never seen an example without the holes. Thanks for sharing it.

This has been a fun month of collecting for me, I have updated my walls with the new items and the Ruth is at the frame shop.

That looks amazing Bob, congrats! I like the classic look and consistency of the black framing.

Wow! Amazing and classy wall displays. I also love the uniformity, and the super clean look. Those are all epic "cream of the crop" items!

I see a great spot for Babe, and hope to see an update post when he's back!

Gee, Bob. It's too bad you couldn't get any really nice stuff this month. Maybe next month will be better. It's beautiful

Thanks all, it has been a fun month to collect for me and I will be sitting on the sidelines for a while as I pay for everything. I really appreciate the kind words!

Well, after Heritage the last two days I am officially taking a break from buying/auctions. REA and Heritage have helped me add some nice cards and memorabilia pieces to me collection.

Last night I was the winner of my first ring bat!!

Congrats Steven. We would love to see some pics

Bob.. No words. Those signs are bomb.
The Ruth... Well.. It's the bomb diggity. Welcome to the club. Spectacular and can't wait to see it framed.

Also.. You're going to be done with Ruth and or gehrig Conlons now correct?

I am sorry Bob, but as I am sure Ben will agree, but you are not allowed to buy any photos of Lou Gehrig.
