Default 2002 T206 Cobb w/ Bazooka back vs. T206 Cobb w/ Ty Cobb back

With a confirmed print run of only 30 cards, it now looks like the 2002 Topps T-206 Ty Cobb card with Bazooka advertising back is only marginally less rare than the original T-206 Ty Cobb card with Ty Cobb advertising back.

Art M. -- looks like you have a new card to add to your T206 Tigers team set!

Sorry, this was my amusement for the day

i still havent seen anything but mid to low grade commons of original t206 cards inserted into the new packs EXCEPT i have seen a few t205's. I thought 4400 original t206s sounded like alot, its because they also include t205s with them. That has to be some kind of mistake because all of them are labeled as being t206s.Somebody with topps goofed.
For anyone looking for higher sales for their t206's,just say that you got them out of a pack of the new cards because people who dont know better seem to be paying more for these cards.
I cant believe the price these cards are getting, makes me wish i bought some to resell when they were pre-selling for $65 or less instead of up to $100 now

What will the original G/VG T206 cards go for when they have the Topps T206 holder graded PSA 10?

i guess the people at topps cant tell the difference between the old sets because last night i saw a T207 card that was found in one of the new packs. and just like all the T205's that ive seen found in the new packs,it was labeled as being a T206......i wonder if any of the new cards look like t205's or t207s...finally,one of the problems i saw with these cards coming out was searching for the originals on ebay would be harder. Last night i typed in t206,and 3143 items showed up! doh! when i finally narrowed the search just 406 were in the pre-50's,but some people have originals found in the 2002 packs listed in new cards, and there were a lot listed in 90-99 singles for some reason, cant explain that one

This past spring and summer I think Kit Young went crazy purchasing T-206s on e-bay and everywhere else (he was even purchasing them from local dealers at Cleveland area shows). I think he was Topp's main supplier for this promo. Now my question is this, why on earth would they be mixing in T-205s and T-207's? Was this done as a joke or was he running out of T-206s and he needed something as filler material to live up to his obligation?

Eric

cards of Yaz with a Cycle back, or Cobb with a Bazooka back--UGH. I think Topps is trying to confuse relatively new collectors so that they throw up their hands in horror and stick to the new stuff.

T205s mixed in--what did I tell you? $100 a pack? Outrageous.

Clearly this issue doesn't seem to be drawing in (m)any new collectors, as it seems like most of the T206 cards are showing up on EBay.

Julie, the price is like $85- a box, not per pack!

I grew up buying Topps packs at the local grocery stores, and still enjoy buying a new pack once in a while.

Julie,
Think MW offered that one. It was so noted on the SGC graded holder 'pulled from pack' or some such notation. He had it originally for a large sum of money but then backed off (I believe, don't flame me MW) for the amount of about 6K. It was a Mansfields player which is pretty uncommon (although you can find them) and especially in the condition it was in. Think it was SGC98. 6K actually probably wasn't THAT bad for it when PSA8's are selling for $1100-$1500 or so on commons. Just a lot for an uncommon 'common' though. Don't know if he sold it or still has it (in case you're looking to purchase!).

In addition to Old Judges, Cabinets, W600's, PM1's, T206's, T207's, T205's, T213's and a bevy of other vintage and 19th century issues I collect, I, too, must confess that I'm a new card purchaser. Having bought packs first in 1975, I still like ripping packs.

To actually think you can buy boxes now and make your money back, however, is another story. Average boxes now cost about $100 with high end products selling for $400. My local store relies on me for vintage advice so I get okay deals on some new stuff. Most of the stuff I buy is the Topps Heritage product--really nice quality (for the most part). This year's is similar to the 1953 Topps set. They do have a TON of short prints and two boxes at $100 each come NO where near to completing the set. Then you gotta buy the SP's one at a time at shows.

I also have collected the golf cards from last year and this. So........I feel better confessing.....a good 12 step program would probably be helpful......a note from the store that I do frequent.......they have a customer who is a multi-millionaire who regularly spends 5K or more with them on a WEEKLY basis opening new products. He'll open CASES of cards at $100 to $400 a box (8 to 12 boxes PER case) and just pull the tough inserts and leave the rest at the store. Don't know how or why he wants to go this route because anyone that actually looks at the Beckett can see monthly how these chase cards go down in value.

The local sporting goods store sells last year's cards at about 1/3 retail, so I pick up a few packs about every other year and eventually give them all away. This year I bought 6 packs of bat cards and pulled a Kiner, which I promptly shipped to John - only a Pirates fan could appreciate that card. About 7 years ago Topps had a set called "extra innings" that I got hooked on for about 25 packs - it's still my favorite modern set because of the large vivid photos. When I was about 5 I remember my Dad bringing an unopened pack of basketball cards out of the drugstore - I was really surprised, but I still remember him opening the pack and checking out each player. Funny what kids remember.

1887 N172 Old Judge C. Alcott (Taken from Old Judge Pack) ................ SGC 98 - $10,000

Among all of the grading companies, there are literally only a handful of N172 Old Judge singles graded Mint. However, there is ONLY ONE GEM MINT 10. Furthermore, this Gem Mint 10 is the only known example that was found in a completely intact and unopened Old Judge Cigarette package. In fact, it is unlikely that another such find has occurred in the last 100 years. As such, it is, and always will be the only Pedigreed Gem Mint 10 example. In fact, SGC, which is the strictest grader of 19th Century baseball cards, has never even graded a Mint 9!

While no card is completely flawless, this card is significantly nicer than any other known N172. First, This is the only Old Judge with four original, razor sharp, Gem Mint, and Perfect corners! The imagery is unquestionably superb. The contrast, focus and registration are absolutely incredible. Furthermore, the edges are fresh and clean and the reverse is literally fresh-from-the-pack! The clarity of the depicted Charles Alcott, third baseman for Mansfield (the only Mansfield player in the set!), is absolutely stunning. Remember, while the only auctioned PSA Mint 9 Old Judge climbed to more than $30,000.00 on eBay, this vastly superior example embodies GEM MINT 10 PERFECTION!

Here is the picture:

SGC refuses to put "460 series" or "factory 42" on my cards, claiming that if it isn't listed that way in the catalogs they won't do it.

Please show me ANY catalog that lists Old Judge prices based on whether or not they were PULLED FROM A PACK!

My vote is to burn all grading companies to the ground - perhaps my therapist will say my anger management is taking a step backwards...but I FEEEL it!

My sister sent me a box of BBM '91 Japanese baseball cards (in 1991). I kept them for ten years, and then opened them. No Sasaki rookie, 1 Nomo rookie (o/c). I think, with postage, she spent about $90 on them. I have gotten an album full of japanese cards, though.

When I used to have to accompany my 9-year-old son to the baseball card shop (that's how I got hooked), because he wasn't supposed to carry his $5 allowence, he never bought packs. He always wanted to see what he was getting. My first contribution was a $1 1975 mini Brock. My second, all too soon, was a $20 1955 Jackie Robinson. And so on.

I read recently in VCBC (I'm re-reading them all waiting for a new one) about a gem mint Old Judge that someone pulled out of a pack of cigarettes. What a thrill that must have been. Nobody would meet his reserve. I wonder if he offered the cigarette pack along with the card?

when I was fourteen, I didn't have enough money to buy the regular 1982 Topps set from the Larry Fritsch catalog and had to settle for the Topps Traded Set plus a Fleer Set. My lack of money forced me into what time proved to be the superior deal.

...and SGC seems to be the best, but you're right, it is only cardboard - so why can't they put the identifier I requested on the label? Because slabbing cards is all about money and I don't have enough to pull any weight. Maybe I'll take my request to Beckett or GAI and have better luck - the only cards I wanted to slab are my difficult backs. If the holder looks nice, protects the card, and the grading company will honor my reasonable request, I'll consider them - prior to seeing this card I had planned to send them to SGC anyway, but not now...and I just checked my blood pressure and it's only marginally high, mostly due to recent conflicts with 2 ex-wives (by the way, that's way too many!)

I think the folks that do send in a lot of stuff to be graded do pull more weight.....but that would be with any business.....I agree with you that they (SGC) should be consistent with whatever they do...I am not sure if I would, if I were them, put other details on holders though. Of course if I did it for one then I would do it for others. I absolutely agree with you that"it's all about money" though. Look what happened when I tried to persuade SGC to do an "original" holder without a grade. The folks that have money invested raised a stink and killed a perfectly good "hobbyist" idea. That's just my take on it..... good luck and best regards...

I can see both sides of the argument Scott/Leon........as for putting the backs on there, the big SCD book does list (or did) individual backs like Carolina Brights and then say see T206, so TECHNICALLY they do recognize the different backs. Don't know if they still do but that might be basis for an argument to put on there.

On the flip side.....what would they then need to do with pop reports? It would be good if you could say how many red Cobb portraits are out there TOTAL and then break that down further by back type. Don't know. I too would like it on there because I have a nice Cobb Tolstoi back (not the NEW T206) that I would like to have Tolstoi on it. It is currently entombed in a PSA holder (no, not for sale anyone).

2c worth.........

Derek (head grader at SGC) was present when this card was pulled from a pack, hence, the designation.

FYI: we purchased this card from another collector. It was not submitted by us.

I DO believe that SGC is consistent in the manner in which they label their holders. They are no more likely to add a special designation to a card for us than they are for someone else.

that Kiner card mr forrest speaks of is diplayed with all my other Pirates cards including my 3 team set displays from 81-82(topps,donruss,fleer) the first years i collected cards.....i bought some new topps t206 cards, kept the mini(t206 size) cards and im selling the rest, and im trying to get the pirates team set in mini's,got 2 of the 4 so far off ebay. 2002 upper deck vintage looks, they look just like 71 topps and fleer tradition also look nice, looks like a goudey's card so i bought a few packs of each but thats it for newer cards, unless something else nice comes out

HEY SCOTT

IF YOU HAVE ANY LUCK WITH THE SLAB COMPANIES ON SPECIAL DESCRIPTIONS, LET ME KNOW, I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I COLLECT T206 BACKS,FACTORY DESIGNATIONS, AND PRINTING ERRORS, AND IT'S FRUSTRATING TO SEE OTHERS GET SPECIAL TREATMENT IN DESCRIPTIONS AND CERTAINLY IN GRADING. I OPENDED 2 33 CARD 1970 CELLO PACKS A FEW WEEKS AGO, AND SENT 15 OF THE SHARPEST CARDS TO BE GRADED, ONLY RECEIVED 2 9 BOTH OC, AND 13 8, EVEN THOUGH EVERY CARD LOOKS THE SAME. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT IN 66 CARDS THAT WERE FRESH FROM THE PACK I GOT ONLY 2 9 AND OC TO BOOT.
THESE GRADING COMPANIES CAN DRIVE YOU CRAZIER THAN AN EX WIFE. BE WELL BRIAN
