Default July Pick up Thread

Wow, first time I've started the monthly pickup thread. Recently added the purple color variation as I very slowly work on the different color types for this card.

Thanks guys! It's been a number of years since I've been able to add one to my run, and I think it'll be many more, if ever, before I add another.

Cheers,
Steve

Steve, congrats re this fantastic addition to your WaJo back run. From doing my Jennings back run, I know the special excitement one feels when one obtains a rarity to get closer to the finish line.

Great cards, everyone. I don't know where Jerry and Steve find all of these cards. Fun to see.

Here's a WG1 from the Esch collection. I don't know much about this set, but they don't seem to come up for sale very often.

Also, a 9 OC Goudey of Wright. I know this one may get some boos, but I thought it was kind of nice, with sharp corners. I'm not a graded guy, but have some high grade, slabbed stuff for fun.

The OC works on your Wright Rob, the strong red vertical acts as an anchor and a pseudo border, all the movement is away from the anchor si it winds up being very pleasing to the eye. Nice pick up.

thanks to david for getting me this ruth for my collection. Looks like Ruth was the last card on the strip...accounting for the large rt border...still cut very nicely. I like evidence of use personally...i will not be going for the color variations or an example with better centering!!!!

Never worry and don't fear, Mother Hen has copied this post to the T205 EGGS thread, a thing our hearts find so dear, and should by all be read.

Nice W517 Ruth. I really like that pose.

I believe that the original 3 card strips were all horizontal, not vertical, so the other 2 cards that were originally with Ruth would have the same left to right centering.

George,

Nice pickup. These aren't recent pickups and aren't for sale, but do come with musical accompaniment.

I believe that the original 3 card strips were all horizontal, not vertical, so the other 2 cards that were originally with Ruth would have the same left to right centering.

I don't think I have seen a horizontal w517 strip but have had several vertical ones.

That Carrera set is loaded with Hall of Famers!
I’ve been wanting a Marx Brothers card for a while. The Carreras was the earliest and coolest one I found. I love the oval shape. You are right, the Carrera’s set is great. I almost got a complete album but the guy with the one I wanted didn’t ship to the U.S. The theatre lobby cards from back then are cool looking too. But I don’t know enough about them to get into collecting those.

Default Final piece of the puzzle...

Couple of arrivals yesterday -- one T206 HOF upgrade, and the final piece to a Leaf run that's been going for about 10 years now. The Rizzuto was sneaky tough to find a nice copy, but glad I waited. Very pleased!

Happy to pick up a couple of Candy rare-backs, I believe both of these cards were owned by board members here at some point.

Thanks Leon,
Always fun to see/read about these cards on an old Net54 thread and see them end up back in the cllubhouse.
