Default a few more pieces

Lou was nice enough to send over these pieces of information too...
.

Upper scan- Newspaper
"Leon...This article is from a Tidewater area newspaper. I would guess the date to be just prior to 1910. Notcie the spelling of Revell(e). My praternal grandmother suggested an "e" be added (probably around 1900)."

.
.

Team picture - Lower scan
This team photo is from an original photo (as was the article). I do not know who this team was, and I can't make out the name on the shirts. Dutch is in the middle row, second from left

Default Many Thanks

I would like to thank Leon for posting these....Also of interest is to notice the spelling of the word "notice" in the article description. Sorry about that, but I am terrible with a keyboard!!!!! I hope some of the forum members can share info. regarding the identity of the team shown in the photo. I would like to find out if anyone else had ever seen the article.....Thanks ...Lou Revelle

Default article a bit bigger

You are very welcome Lou. It's always exciting for us addicted collectors to have a relative of one of the cherished players from pre-wwII visit our board. Here is the article, enlarged a bit, so our members can read it better. Thanks again Lou.....we all appreciate it. This is the article under the newspaper cut picture of Dutch above.

Default Dutch's catcher

Great card Frank.....If Dutch Sr. could throw as fast as Dutch Jr. (my dad) I know he must have been awesome....Dad would throw the ball at me so hard I would cry.....and he would pitch another one....my son has the build and strength of a great player...but all he wants to do is compete in marathons and eat health foods....What would Dutch have thought about his great grandson........(he's probably smiling at him right now!) Thanks for that image...now you guys have got me interested in the hobby !!!!! Lou Revelle

This thread was mentioned in another thread so why not bump it? It has some great stuff in it. Always a bit saddened when I see JimB's posts as he was at, or near, the very top of my favorite people on the forum. To answer a question in the other thread, no sightings of Lou Revelle (board member) since back then.

This is a great thread and read and I never would have seen it if Leon hadn't bumped.

Default Nice to see some names of collectors haven’t heard from in a while

Didn’t check the date on the thread when I first opened it and thought wow haven’t seen Jim or John on forever. Sorry it’s old but nice to see the names again.

Thanks to the research in this thread I was finally able to track down a Dutch Revelle signature on his World War I Draft Card, including a reference to the Navy Yard where Revelle died.

This was, and remains, a fun thread. Not only for the collaborative effort on the cards and info on Dutch, but also for some of the old guys in this thread. It rekindled lots of memories. Thanks, Leon.

Just saw a glass plate negative of Reveille on eBay, from a 1911 spring training tryout with the NY Highlanders, and thought of this thread.

Thanks for bringing this thread up again!

Loved reading through this as hadn’t seen it before

Got me thinking… Has anyone else been able to connect with family members of pre war players?

I thought about trying to hunt down the family members of T206 players… would be a neat project

Matt

Hankphenom on the board is not chopped liver. I believe he is either the grandson or great-grandson of Walter Johnson.
