Default How to get best bang for buck with packs/boxes?

I recently started collecting again and though I'm focusing on more vintage stuff, my kids and I do enjoy opening packs.

Recently I bought a box of 2013 Topps that guaranteed 1 auto or relic and it had one and it was fun, but, the relic/auto cards are what the kids enjoy the most.

I notice there are different sizes of boxes/packs (i.e. hobby, jumbo, etc.) that can be bought and I'm trying to decide if there is a way to buy packs/boxes where we can get more autos and relic cards without breaking the bank? And I'm not concerned with getting the newest cards out there, so I will go as far back as needed.

Hope that made sense. Any pointing in the right direction is greatly appreciated!

About the only stuff with lots of autos is the old signature rookies stuff, or classic 4 sport signature edition. 94 might be pricy with a chance at Jeter, but the rest is reasonable.

For newer stuff where they might get players they can see on TV, the hobby boxes with a for sure one to a box are probably the way to go.
There's stuff like titanium where it's one card signed or relic or both, but it's $20 a card and not much value in the opening/hunt area.
