I had posted this thread before we had the last glitch. It's not the fact that we have gone down a few times in the last few years as I am not sure that would be reason enough to move. I get weekly emails from members that are great guys that have been inadvertently blocked as they are AOL users...plus our functionality sucks, imo. Brian and I will be talking more this evening or tomorrow about it. All thoughts are welcomed..... |

Thanks for the support. There is also a chance we could lock this forum down for a while and have a link to it from somewhere else. That way we would have the information here, but only be able to add to the new forum. It's only a few hundred dollars a year and I am sure we could keep it for a year or two.... It's a thought. I agree with you about trying to scrub this info. It would be difficult at best. I have some ideas I will discuss with you and Brian (and E, if he wants to help)....as well as Dan B and Matt, if they (ya'll) would like? We'll be talking....btw, I just checked and I had posted questions both 7 and 9 days ago on the Net54 tech forum, with nary an answer or response as of yet. |

I respect Bill and his opinions greatly, but I have to disagree. I think it would be difficult and take a long time to recreate a lot of the information that is archived on this site. The loss of threads from knowledgeable people that for whatever reason are no longer with us would be horrible. People still read the Trader Speaks and other older hobby publications, I see the old threads as harder to read but equally important. |

I really can't imagine losing people because we would move to another site. I truly believe that everybody who has made it to this site can probably make it to another site. I am all for a new site if it will allow us to not have any technical glitches, slow loading, etc. I am am little worried about losing all the information, but I have a feeling we will be able to transfer over the good one's. |

I hope ya'll understand that we understand this is a major decision and we will not take it lightly at all. In a perfect world we would develop another site, load all of the Net54 information (I doubt we would edit any out), and then after the new one is tested and tested we would make the switch. I don't want to lose the archived threads and data either, as a few have mentioned. Our goal will be to accomplish everything and come out with a better site for everyone. |

Leon, not sure if this is related. But when I try to send an email to someone on the board using their name it sends me to AOL and tries to log me on to AOL with dial-up. I don't have AOL so I just cancel. |

I would love to see new forum s/w. Instead of losing people, it might bring a few back. Some people don't post due to questions not getting answered and getting buried under OT topics. Not sure how important the archives are? There are some great posts, but plenty that just waste bits. Maybe if people put together a list of posts worthy of saving? |

I have never heard of that. It is no secret, and if you read behind the scenes on the tech forums it would be imminently clear, that the devolopers of Net54 s/w have no love for AOL. I guess they have never been able to deal with it and it's ways....To put it politely they hate AOL..... |

I like this forum because it it so simple. I do like having all threads on the front page so you can browse everything at a glance - easier than opening categories for quick visits. So I appreciate that Leon will keep that open format. |

When I started this forum, the N54 software was if not cutting edge, at least very up to date. In the intervening years they have done very little to update the software and there is certainly a lot of better software providers now with a multitude of new features which would make the forum a better place. |

Thanks again E and others......The support is appreciated. Brian and I spoke Sunday morning and he is investigating a new host as we speak. It will be communicated very well as we go down the road to better s/w. My guess is that in 2-3 months we will have a different shell to be housed in....thanks to all for your ideas. My guess is that, at least immediately, this site will be linked to the new one for quite a while and this one will be "read only", but nothing is definite yet.. Even after we find the new host it will take a bit to get it to where we need it to be. best regards |

Our new solution is coming along quicker than anticipated. If I had to guess I would say we are a matter of a few weeks away from a new host. It looks great too. It will look very much like this one but will be running on a webhosting server by yahoo and will be software that we won't have to rely on any other company for. It is owned, outright. It has a million bells and whistles and I think ya'll will really like it. Everything and anything you have seen on other boards, it has. And it is all under our control with no need for help from a company, Network54, that doesn't seem to care. Stay tuned....AND sorry for the Network54 maintenance tonight.....That too is well beyond our (the moderators) control. I am sure their maintenance is only fixing an egregious problem and not a true s/w update. regards |

unavailalbe.... fortunately, I have some Tinkerbell watches for one of my daughters, who likes a certain Tinkerbell watch. And no others. I keep spares, and buy them on eBay when they surface. Now all I have to do is sort out a Disneyland one from the Disneyworld ones, then I'll have me a California time watch... and that way I'll know about this pending unavailalbitly. |

I see our little forum being tightened up a little bit with the new software coming soon. It might mean a few less posts but so be it. You will probably be able to stay anonymous in your posting, but to post in the first place you will need to register with good contact info. Oh happy days, No trolls and no sandbagging.....(touting your own stuff anonymously).... I have been playing with the new Control Panel of Vbulletin. If you are a regular collector you will like the new system. If you are a troll or anonymous troublemaker you will no longer exist. best regards |
