If you collect Oriole programs and don't recognize this one, you are forgiven. This is actually a Toronto Blue Jays program from 1978...read the fine print at the bottom...it is considered fine print at my age if I need glasses to read it. It features Rick Dempsey on the cover and I think that is Larry Harlow in the background.
It has a nostalgic 4 page article on collecting baseball cards with no mention of grading or condition!!! Imagine that...collecting just for fun. It also has an article giving a detailed account of the 24-10 stomping the Jays gave the Orioles where catcher and coach Elrod Hendricks made his only pitching appearance and gave up no runs in 2+ innings throwing 45-50 MPH floaters!!! Lifetime ERA of 0.00. Harlow also pitched in that game but gave up 5 runs in less than an inning. Old publications and programs have hidden nuggets just waiting to be rediscovered. I do have memories of that Blue Jays game where both Harlow & Elrod pitched. Elrod ending up the '78 season with both the lowest ERA on the club (0.00) and highest Batting average (.333; 6 for 18). |

I listened to that game on the radio as a teenager while working at a local Tastee Freeze...my boss was a huge Yankee fan and said it's a shame we weren't closer to the stadium because maybe we could get there and pitch too.

1954 Lewiston Broncs
Just got back from the Orioles spring training game. I sat beside a couple from Idaho, so I guess that was a hint to share a couple items from the two O's affiliates from Lewiston, Idaho.
In 1954, the Lewiston Broncs were the Orioles class A affiliate in the Western International League. They finished 77-61. The only major league player I could find from that team was Al Heist, who played from 1960-62, but not with the Orioles. He was included in a couple Topps sets and the 1962 Salada coin set, as a Houston Colt. 1954 Program 1954 Lewiston Broncs.jpg Al Heist Salada Coin s-l400.jpg The Orioles returned to Lewiston in 1972, with their short season A affiliate playing in the Northwest League. The Lewis-Clark Broncs represented Lewiston, Idaho and twin city Clarkston, Washington. The Broncs finished an impressive 54-26 and won the league championship. No one from the team ended up in Baltimore, but a couple of Lewiston alumni include Reggie Jackson and Bert Campaneris, while Lewiston was an Oakland affiliate. 1972 Lewiston Program 1972 Lewiston Broncs.jpg 1976 Reggie Jackson team issued photo Jackson, Reggie 1.jpg |

Alan,
The '72 Lewiston program is a gem. I like everything about the design setup, colors, font, etc. on this program. One of the nicest I've seen so far. |

1954 Wichita Indians
As Major League baseball considers reducing the number of affiliated minor league teams, the Orioles had a franchise high 12 affiliates in 1954.
Today, I would like to continue with the Orioles class A affiliate from the Western League, the Wichita Indians. The Indians were located in Wichita, Kansas and finished with a 76-77 record. A look through the roster didn't produce much in the way of major league talent, but I do have a couple photos of players from the team. 1954 Wichita Program 1954 Wichita Indians.jpg Bill Diemer Diemer, Bill 1.jpg Bob Masser Masser, Bob 1.jpg |

That's it... I saw one example where Brooks signed the inside cover of the Who's Who with something humorous. Can't remember the exact, but something like "an impostor".

1964 Bazooka Proof
Good morning, here's a photo of a 1964 Bazooka proof featuring Milt Pappas. While researching the card prior to purchasing it, I noticed that quitcrab sold a full 10-player proof sheet of the '64 Bazookas with Boog Powell on it. I hope to be able to find something similar one day, that was a beautiful piece.

While I really like the 1969 programs they are easily found with a quick search. Now the third party ones are typically hard to come by; there were a couple you've posted that I've never seen before. Those are very cool...

Yes, I know it was 1966 but Frank is shown in the old bird hat in that 1966 photo...so am I to assume they used the old logo in spring training and started the season with the cartoon bird or was there a switch in mid season?

1954-55 Redman Tobacco
I apologize if these cards have already been posted, but in my opinion some of the most beautiful sets produced are the Redman Tobacco cards from 1952-1955. I love the style and bright colors that were used. Unfortunately, there were only a couple of Orioles and they aren't my favorite cards from those sets.. One card each in 1954 and 1955.

Last night I caught a replay of the 2001 All Star Game on MLB Network. As most people here know, Cal homered off the Dodgers Chan Ho Park and was named the game's MVP (oldest player ever to win an All Star MVP).
Charly Steiner of ESPN did the Play by Play of the game on the radio and had a memorable call of when Cal hit it "Did He Do It?...Did He Do It?...He Did!" You hear that sound clip often around All Star Game time... Anyways in 2005, I had the bright idea that I'd like to get Steiner to sign an Official '01 ASG Ball with that very inscription. At that point, he was doing radio with the Yankees and I had an Orioles contact get me in the Radio Press Box pregame one Sunday afternoon with the hopes of getting him to sign my ball. When I approached him he couldn't have been nicer and was thrilled that I wanted to include him as part of my collection (even Cal thought it was an unique piece to sign): Last edited by roarfrom34; 05-10-2020 at 05:46 AM. |

Day 180 (June 28, 2020 – 180)
Orioles fans from 1968 all the way to 1975 likely recognize Linda Warehime the blond-haired girl with the broom. For a period of seven years Linda would sweep the bases, mound and the infielders’ shoes at Memorial Stadium during the fifth-inning break. Her most important job was to taunt the visiting team’s third base coach. 1969 Linda Warehime photo by Tadder Day 180 a Photo 1969 Tadder Linda Warehime.jpg Early 70’s Linda Warehime sweeping home photo by Jay Spencer Day 180 b Photo Early 1970's Jay Spencer Linda Warehime sweeping home 1.jpg And with Brooks... 1955 Topps Dobleheaders
One of my favorite sets from the 1950's is the 1955 Topps Doubleheader set. Each card pictures two different players. The cards are perforated in the middle. One player is pictured while folded and another player when the card is unfolded. Both players share the bottom part of the card. I love the colors and design of the set. One really cool fact is, if you place the unfolded cards side by side, they form several continuous stadium backgrounds. I don't have the complete set, but here's a photo I found to illustrate the stadium backgrounds.
55dh-all2.jpg The set contains seven Orioles. Five players are shown while folded and two while unfolded. My only complaint is that I wish all the Orioles were pictured while unfolded. Folded - Chuck Diering, Billy O'Dell, Hal Smith, Harry Brecheen and Gus Triandos Unfolded - Fred Marsh and Bob Kennedy 1955 Topps Doubleheaders.jpg SCAN8652.JPG SCAN8651-1.jpg One of the most desired and valuable cards in the set is Hal Smith. That's because he's paired with Red Sox legend Ted Williams SCAN8651-2.jpg |

I realized with June coming to an end, I hadn't posted my Bi Centennial bat of the month yet.
Here is a Lee May bat from 1976, along with an inscription of him being the A.L. RBI Champ that season. When he signed it for me at a Baltimore area show in '11, I asked him to add his RBI total of 109 and he said that he had 113 RBI's that year and wrote that (who argues with Lee May?)....Fortunately a friend of mine was able to remove that incorrect figure (though a remnant still remains): Last edited by roarfrom34; 06-28-2020 at 09:46 AM. |

Day 288 (October 14, 2020 – 288)
Photo from after Game 3 and used for a publication on the 14th. What a game... Quote: “He (Brooks) plays third base like he came down from a higher league.” – Umpire Ed Hurley Day 288 Photo 1970 Ocober 14 O's win Game 3.jpg On Wednesday, October 14, 1970, was the 4th game of the ’70 World Series. The game was played in Memorial Stadium. I had the opportunity to attend this game and still have all the souvenirs my parents purchased for me from the time at the Stadium. All the items are in relatively poor shape, but I kept them all the same. A few days after the game I cut out all the pictures of the Oriole players in my World Series program and put them in a scrapbook. Thankfully, the program is relatively inexpensive and acquired another years later. Of course, as you probably already know, the O’s lost Game 4, but it was an exciting time. The pitchers for the game were Jim Palmer for the Orioles and Gary Nolan for the Reds. Day 288 Photo 1970 Coming to bat.jpg Day 288 Photo 1970 WS.jpg Reds win 6-5. Tony Tarasco
While Tito Landrum will always go down in Orioles history for his dramatic HR in the 1983 playoffs, perhaps one of the lowest points in O's history took place in the 1996 ALCS series.
Tony Tarasco didn't play for the Orioles for very long, but will always be remembered by Orioles fans as part of the infamous Jeffrey Maier catch / interference play in game 1 of the 1996 ALCS. What bothered me the most, was not a young kid doing what kids do in the excitement of the game, but how Yankee fans hailed him a hero, endorsing and praising the interference. Here's the play, before replay and challenges were an option. Interesting, HOFer Joe Morgan, who just passed away, was part of the broadcast. Warning: Some parts of the video may be too disturbing for real Orioles fans https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVNlvnsQ828 Tarasco, Tony 1 - Copy.jpg Benitez, Armando 1 - Copy.jpg Johnson, Davey 11 - Copy.jpg |
