Default Let's put together.........E103 Williams Caramel Set

Posted By: Jeff Williams

I just recently began the long process of putting together the E103 Williams Caramel Set. And, since I know it's going to be a while before I complete this set, I thought it would be a good idea to put it together on the board. Please post only the cards you own. I will start us off with a Matty!

Edited to add a scan from a different scanner to show an image that more closely resembles the color of the actual card.

Well then here you go, Joe. Perhaps a lesser condition non-HOFer can put you at ease?

Regards,

Richard.

Not a big name HOFer, or even a recognizable name for many, but I'll get one of the two toughest cards in the set out of the way. Alan might have to help us out with the Tenny though....

I am lucky beyond words to have picked this up from BST a little over a year ago. A Detroiter, and my only example from this set - a double coup!

(Corners are all rounded. Didn't have a scanner when I got this so I had it scanned at work. It cut off two of the sides, and I haven't gotten around to scanning it myself to fix it yet.)

The Wood must be tough, I NEVER see them for sale. Nice Lajoie above, especially since its only graded VG. I wonder what the Wagner was graded at above?

Dylan,
Wagner above is an SGC 60/5. Tough grade. I think it could easily be an 80/6 on a good day.

That Wagner is really outstanding. It also brings up a point about the red color showing through in these scans . My Cobb actually is a very deep red , but this is not very evident in my scan . Does your Wagner have the shade of red seen in the scan or is it a different shade ?

1.) How many collectors are trying to put this set together right now?

2.) How many collectors have a complete set? Or, have completed it in the past?

3.) Which E103's have you had difficulty acquiring?

Thanks in advance
Jeff

Lyle,
The color of the Wagner is more maroon than the burnt looking color of that scan. See above, I have added a second scan taken from a different scanner. It includes the card and the SGC case. The actual color is much closer to that. When I have compared my E103s, I have noticed what I would call three basic color types:
Maroon
Red
Magenta
I am not sure if these correspond to different print runs on the entire set or different backgrounds for individual cards. It might be interesting to line up multiple copies of the same card to determine this.
JimB
