Default Carlton Fisk Red Sox Team Issue Questions

Hi-

Which of these is earlier? Any idea on the specific year? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Alan:

I would guess early-mid ‘70’s on the black and white one and late ‘70’s on the color one.

To narrow down a date, it's probably all about that sleeve star insignia on the color photo. A quick search on eBay shows it appearing on many 1977 Red Sox players' cards. Didn't see it (not a thorough search) on any 1976 or 1978 cards, so it looks like the pic was 'probably' taken sometime during the 1976 season. Doesn't give you a release date, but it's something.

Thank you both! Phil, that was my guess as well but it is good to confirm. Darren, thank you for your help on the other one as I had not noticed the star and it does serve to help date it more accurately.

He's also wearing a flannel in the B&W and a double knit in the color.

According to the TCDB. the color sample is from the 1976/1977 (photos likely from '76) Boston Red Sox Picture Pack - if anyone has an Evans or Rice from this issue they'd be willing to sell please let me know.

https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/si...O-Carlton-Fisk

There is no listing at TCDB that could ID the B&W one.

Thank you! Bob, good point regarding the uniform differences. Dewey, thank you for checking that site. I have the Rice from that same set in my Rice collection. I do not collect Evans but if I find one or a duplicate Rice I will let you know.

I believe the black and white photo is 1972. There is a Marty Pattin on Ebay right now and he only played for the Red Sox in 72 and 73.

I need a Tiant and haven't seen one in years but I know it exists. Tiant signed with the Red Sox in May of 1971 and didn't debut until mid-June. That means between him and Pattin this had to be released between 71-73 with 71 maybe being unlikely if the photos were printed before or during the first half of the season.
