Default 1996 Fleer Ultra Missing foil

Updated 2/6/25: I have now found 10 more cards that were in my 'player' sorts, bringing my total to 71.

Has anyone ever seen an uncut sheet? I'm trying to determine if I have one-off printing errors (one sheet or across several?). I have at least 61 71 without the foil stamping of the name. You can see where the die came down on most, so it was attempted but they must have run out of the foil. All are different players, and the only one I was able to find referenced on the interweb is unique also. All cards are from Series 1. Not sure if it matters, but cards run from #13 to #503.

EDIT: In the nearly 3 years since this post, I have only found two others listed for sale. A Todd Zeile #503 and recently a Kent Merker #307. That brings the total known to me to 63.

Leon, can you move this to the Modern forum?

FWIW, I wish all cards looked like this, without all the crap.

The foil comes in a roll with a backing and is pressed on with a heated die.

If the roll doesn't move properly, you can get cards with partial foil.
If it doesn't move at all, the next sheet won't get foil.

What's interesting is that the other foil looks like it's there.
I wonder if they used multiple narrow strips? That would be a mess to set up, but cost less in the long run. That miss could have also been the roll running out, or being so misaligned that the die didn't touch it.

Thanks, Steve. Wasn't really sure how it is done. I guess that the lack of any foil in the name area supports the "2 roll" setup. I'm not sure how that would work with 132 dies cranking out at any speed. I would figure it would be one stamping action per sheet?

Should be one for the whole sheet.

I haven't seen a high production setup, so it's also possible they have a roller setup of some kind.

I used to own a big lot of these, all commons that I purchased for the Billy Ashley in the lot but all were exactly like this: Ultra was printed, name/team missing.

Dylan,
Do you have an approx #? If it was under 70, it still is possible it's a one off sheet, although it seems unlikely that there would be only two stashes. I have no recollection of where I purchased the boxes, but they were definitely local here in Tampa.

Definitely less than 70, doubt there were 50 even. Maybe 30ish?
