Great programs / scorecards don't have to be older than my parents...

Here is my scorecard from Aug 12, 2018 when the Cubs beat the Nationals on a David Bote Ultimate Grand Slam.

For those who don't know, an Ultimate Grand Slam is when the home team is losing by three runs with two out in the bottom of the 9th and one swing wins it.

This scorecard embarrasses me a bit as I look at it now, as I usually keep a pitch count, and I'm surprised I didn't fill in all the final stats.

It was a pretty amazing moment to see happen,
Doug

I collect programs related to my areas of collecting focus.

One of my favorite areas are barnstorming games.

The Mays All-Stars is from the 1955 All-Star tour led by Mays and Don Newcombe. Many other greats including Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Larry Doby and others. In this particular game, Mays hit a walk-off HR.

The 1945 program is from a game that Satchell Paige and Bob Feller faced off. After the game, Feller famously made comments about his belief that he didn't think that Jackie Robinson (who played in the game) was a Major League player. It led to negative feelings for Jackie towards Feller for many years.

Cardinal scorecard from September 28, 1930. On the final day of the regular season Dizzy Dean makes his major league debut, pitching a 3-hit complete game victory with five strikeouts as the N.L. champion Redbirds defeat the Pirates 3-1. Dean adds a single and scores a run. He doesn't return to the majors until 1932.

This is yet another benefit of reading fantastic posts---one can get impressed, inspired, and learn at the same time. I forgot they are called Ultimate GS's. And your post reminded me of a game that I'd attended in which A-Rod hit a walk-off grand slam in 2007. I was in NY for business but at Yankee Stadium for pleasure that day, and I know I kept both the ticket and the program from that game, and I thought for sure the visitors were down by 3 runs. But...a little research indicated that was not the case. Still, it was great to watch the YouTube video and re-live that walk-off GS again!

Programs (and yearbooks/media guides) are the part of my collection that I enjoy the most. I collect mostly Orioles, Baltimore Colts, and NY Rangers items in addition to ephemera related to games that interest me.

A few years ago I tracked down a program from the first game I attended with my Dad, a 1960 doubleheader at Yankee Stadium versus the White Sox.

This one is from a 1951 exhibition game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the International League Orioles. The Dodgers barnstormed their way north from spring training. The O's were a Phillies farm club in 1951.

Dodger lineup for the game:
Don Thompson CF
Carl Furillo LF
Duke Snyder RF
Jackie Robinson 2B
Gil Hodges 1B
Roy Campanella C (the scorer listed him as 'Campy', I love that)
Pee Wee Reese 3B
Rocky Bridges SS
Preacher Roe P

What a kick it must have been for the locals to see those Dodgers stars in person.

Here's a pretty beat-up 1953 IL Orioles program, their last year as a AAA club (if you don't count some of those 1990s Orioles teams!

Lastly my oldest hockey program, from a Rangers game in 1943. I picked it up because of the cover art.

The awesome US Armed Forces content was a nice bonus.

Those of us that kept the tix or programs from our first games (or who have been able to track them down later in life) are pretty lucky!

What a great thread. Not a boring post yet, besides this one.

I particularly love that Expos no-hitter and the Mets openers...

That’s for sure. I have quite a few tickets from games I attended and publications I picked up back then but not many from those early 60s games. I keep looking for that first game stub on eBay. One day I’ll get lucky

Great thread and posts everyone. Here's a first night game scorebook / program where the original owner / attendee pasted their ticket to the front cover.
