I’ve never had one of these in hand, but shouldn’t these have “hand-cut” notations on them?

Indy
Not card related, but my son and I had a great weekend at Indy for his 1st 500. The race day crowd was massive and the tradition truly makes this race the 'greatest spectacle'. He had our tickets signed by Newgarden on Legends Day and I got my '92 Michael Andretti race worn helmet signed by Marco (it was already signed by Michael and Mario). Carb day was busy with the cars on track for 2 hours. We saw Ferrucci and Daly at dinner downtown on Saturday night, too. The racing collectibles show was cool, but we only bought a couple tickets to get signed.....nothing exciting card related, but those may have disappeared on the opening day (Thursday). Can't wait for next year!

Neat autographed items, Matt. Glad you enjoyed Indy. The race looked phenomenal on television.
I had always wondered if there was much in the way of cards at the Indianapolis 500 collectibles show.

I know zero about ticket stubs, but this 1965 Jim Clark caught my eye. Is the price insane?

t36 pickups...
I picked up these t36's of Oldfield, De Palma and Chevrolet this weekend at the Detroit show. They're all low grade, but I was happy to find them and it looks like any t36's graded 4 or higher are 'high grade' according to the PSA pop report.

Great pickups, Matt. I am at 11/25 on a basic T36 driver set. They have really escalated in price over the past several years. I kick myself for not putting together a set when good/very good examples could be had for $25-30 each.

The first driver ever to break the magical mile a minute mark (60 miles per hour), Oldfield shattered the belief that the human body could not withstand such a speed. He also became the first driver synonymous with racing to the extent that the mere mention of his name meant speed.
https://www.hemmings.com/stories/art...arney-oldfield And, of course, Oldfield has a boxing connection with his 1910 match race against heavyweight champion Jack Johnson. That match race earned Oldfield a suspension from the AAA race sanctioning body for racing against a negro. https://www.boxing247.com/weblog/archives/110354 https://www.firstsuperspeedway.com/b...s-jack-johnson

Great pick up, Peter. I think a lot of collectors are still not aware that those Czech magazine cards even exist, but PSA grading them will go a long way toward making more people aware that there are other early Hamilton options besides the Futera (which is out of reach price-wise for many collectors), Top Trumps and SIFK cards.

Best bet are postcards from Racing Pictorial and STP. I have a 1976 available if you are interested. Maybe some from the 1960s too.

Try the 1969 Don Hunter PC, eBay item # 235569319706
Seller doesn't show the back, but it is from a 1969 issue published by Don Hunter and has a nice bio back.

One of the mysteries of the 1972 STP set is where the hell is the David Pearson card? We get Elmo Langley and Dick Brooks in that set, but no Pearson. By '72, Pearson had already won three NASCAR championships.

I am going to go out on a limb here and speculate , I think the 1972 STP cards were ony given out at a STP tent at the Daytona speedway. The only cards made were STP sponsered drivers which would explain the drivers selected. Im sure some drivers like Petty were major sponsers and other drivers were associate or minor sponsers by STP. As far as the Lorenzen cards being so scarce I think his sponsership was pulled befere the race. I have no proof but this makes sense.

It also seems like the same 4-5 drivers are offered for sale all the time: Petty, Baker, Langley, Glotzbach. Where are the others??

I had heard a while ago that Langley and Baker both had stashes of their own cards that they handed out to fans after the 1972 release. That does seem possible, considering how common the Langley and Baker cards seem to be. I wonder if all the Petty cards coming out of the woodwork is just a function of how much the value of that card has escalated the last few years. I remember selling a Petty STP card on here for $150 maybe five years ago, and that was a fair price for both buyer and seller at the time. Petty STPs were not always as common on eBay as what they are these days.

I wish I had bought a higher grade one when they were still cheap, but still, to me one of the great non major sports cards there is, an indispensable card.

I see Hamilton won for the 1st time in awhile today. George Russell won last week, so Mercedes gaining some momentum after starting off the season horribly. Guessing they were able to make some improvements to the car recently.
Verstappen still has a commanding lead, despite his team-mate Sergio Perez really struggling this year. |

T36s have gone insane in recent months. It was not that long ago that the entire set could be purchased for under $1,000. I kick myself for not buying a whole set at auction when they were affordable.
I have been left shocked by single T36s selling for $500+ on eBay in recent months, but that Chevrolet price stuns me. I am at 11/25 on a basic T36 set, and was cringing not that long ago at the thought of paying $100+ for each card to finish the set.

I watched with interest the autographed Joe Weatherly postcard that ended last Saturday on eBay. At just $106, the final auction price seemed very low to me. I fully realize that autographs on eBay are a scammer's paradise. But I think the autograph was good after comparing it with the few other examples that could be found online.
I thought that would be a $300-400 item. Weatherly autographs are very tough. He was the NASCAR Cup series champion in 1962 and 1963, then died in a January 1964 Riverside (Cal.) crash. https://www.ebay.com/itm/176496562158

The numbers just aren't there on early NASCAR stuff; even the best items just do not sell for much. Kinda nice for a collector but disappointing if you plan to make a profit with it.

Nice. That looks to be a tough one to get centered like that. I'm not really a Nascar guy, but that ones been on my wish list for awhile. I've got a bunch of the 88' sets with his card in it and some of his 91" Trax cards (1st Nascar issue), but never sprang for an 87'. Price has come down quite a bit in the last year or so, so I might start looking around for a nice "9". |

Been a while since I posted.
1955 Ferrero 'tinnie' of Stirling Moss: I have a Sugar Ray Robinson already, so I had to have this one. Italian, in case anyone wonders. I love the metal 'cards' from the postwar era, though most of mine are boxers and soccer from Argentina and Uruguay. 1948 Indy 500 ticket with Mauri Rose shown. Rose also won that year.
