T225 has about ten back variations (brand, address, factory #s). You have one of them.

Picked this up on a best offer for $78. Not the deal of the century, but a relatively tough card.

Hey, a 1910 E-Unc Johnson is a nice pick regardless of grade. my SGC 50 went for over $300 before the plague-boom so a quarter of that sounds good to me.
This was catnip to me: ![]() ![]() I've not seen a Louis piece like this before and it fits my collection perfectly.

I got it today and was surprised, pleasantly, to find out that it is a bit smaller than a tall boy card and will fit into a 4 pocket sheet nicely.

So which one of you gentlemen ran up the price on me? Johnson makes 45/50 Miner's Extra backs for my T219 "mini-master-what-is-a-Red-Cross?-150-card-set", with 5 of the commons remaining to finish (Delmont, Kaufman, Klaus, Neil, Jack Sullivan). Cracked it out of the holder first thing, pleasantly surprised to find it isn't trimmed and is even oversized a little. Not sure why it would be sent to GMA now that I have it in hand

So here's how you know you spend too much time on this stuff. eBay seller listed this snapshot as a pair of boxers ca. 1910.
![]() I knew immediately: --The shot is from a professional photographer: he was standing on the ring apron --The shirtless boxer is Jack Dempsey --The big guy in the wife-beater is 6'6" tall Big Bill Tate, Dempsey's sparring partner. --The location is Toledo, Ohio. --The date is June or July 1919. --The event was Dempsey training to fight Jess Willard. The snapshot has a matte finish and nice silvering.

My recents, with more "the back is better" cards. Tippett (I believe this came from a regular poster here but via eBay) makes 24/50 T218 Tolstoi's. The Jackson I already have but this is a nice upgrade and I was surprised my low bid won it. Trudenbach is the tougher spelling error with an M30 back, $4.99 shipped is a good buy I think.
2 more silvers because I can't get enough, and a modern Fury for a change of pace. Not much to collect from in contemporary boxing, but this was a great fight and I believe Fury only has Topps Now cards among anything recognizable (presumably has some obscure stuff I'm not aware of). The bottom 3 are for my T218 master run, now 95% complete for the Mecca/Hassan backs with all caption/factory/spelling variants accounted for. Getting close to the end, which of course means I can't find the 30 front/back combos I need. |

![]() ![]() ![]() These Astra brand versions of Sanella cards are tough to find; wanted one for my type card collection for a while. I had one purchased a few years ago but it got 'lost' in the customs house in NY. This one was radio silent for a week in there but eventually showed up at my local post office and landed safely with me last week. I hear that when you die you find all of the cards that have gotten lost in the mail, with all of the socks that went missing from the dryer.

One of my favorite cheap sets, my 19th card in this tough issue that still seems to have almost 0 interest outside of the Ty Cobb card, whose pricing baffles me. Erne here and Jack O'Brien are about as good as the checklist gets, an odd selection of fighters after the overall excellent selection in the 1st series. Was only $10

Not a new one by any means, but realized I had never scanned it and therefore never could've shared it, so here it is.....
Very nice 3 - I expected a 4-5 from this since there are no creases or back issues at all, but I guess they really didn't like the wear on the corners?? At the current prices, I most assuredly won't be playing any re-sub games - not selling anyway so it doesn't matter! |

Picked up this Floyd signed auxilary pass from his fight with Gatti, Arturo grew up in the same neigbourhood as me, His brother Joe and I were friends in the the late 70's to mid 80's before he moved to New Jersey to pursue his boxing career , I remeber going with him and Arturo around 1980 to the Olympic boxing club on Park avenue in Montreal where they both trained, Arturo was about 8 or 9 years old , he was quite a sight on the speed bag, included is a photo Arturo personalised to me the day before his fight against Joe Hutchinson, his only pro fight fought in his home town of Montreal

I remember watching that fight against Hutchinson on Friday Night Fights. It was a great scrap. Lil Joe did more then hold his own against Gatti. Funny that Gatti was on the same card with two of the Hilton brothers that night. I'm pretty sure those two families really hated each other. In an almost Hatfield/McCoys or Capulets/Montagues type of way. I was lucky enough to be at the first two Gatti/Ward fights. |

Normally I like my boxers looking like boxers and doing boxing things, but this week's mail theme was Fat Sullivan in Suit.
The two cabinets I know are both relatively common by cabinet standards. The shared caption type makes me presume they are by the same maker. The white probably earlier than the grey border, as it has a blank back and is less well-done. The grey border has a summation of his ring record on back, going from the Goss fight to the Kilrain fight. So that one is probably from between late 1889 and mid-1892. Sullivan is my only boxing T224/T229, as I keep trading the ones I have had for other stuff. Great set I like to keep track of, but a little too difficult to chase down a master (and difficult to checklist the details with the stamps). He will be cracked out shortly, might go for a base set here as I am running out of boxing cards to pick up from this period that can be found with any consistency |

It's a great issue. Some of the cards with the sky backgrounds are just luminous when in hand. Really beautiful artwork. That and T218 really got me involved in T boxing when I first handled a few of the better ones.

T220 silver is the most aesthetically pleasing boxing or T card set, with the exception of the T9's, in my biased book. The Turkey Red's are just so big with such nice lithography they kind of win by default. The T220 Silver's are so bright in hand, and with those gorgeous outdoor poses, that I like them even better than the T218's.
I'm hard pressed to think of another ATC/American Lithography issue that had a "parallel" type set. T68 Heroes of History had it's second series printed with a normal Pan handle back and one that is entirely Silver, the same effect as the T220's but on the back. Pretty weird choice, but that's as close as I can think of. I think the T220 set was probably 2 separate releases instead of 1 simultaneous set with a parallel (Donovan and Coburn design changes), with the Silvers printed and issued before the white borders that added another sheet of cards with a mostly-different pose design ("solid color backdrop behind a boxing ring" vs. "outdoors in a forest/jungle/small town"). Desperate for a Corbett to finish this set and patch the empty gap. The White Border's are a great buy still, I think. A complete set is still pretty cheap, and hopefully stays that way long term |
