Default Fake Matty ?

Posted By: Frank B

I think this one qualifies as eligible to be discussed
before auction ends.

Looks like a previous winner of this card balked on taking it
in the end. Seller states EMPHATICALLY that it is authentic.
Only front scan provided but looks like type of "N.Y. NAT'L"
is one size too large.

I wish that I could see the back of this card....I'm almost certain that it's a 1980s reprint from the same series that has things like red old mills.

Completely fake; the typeface is wrong and Scott is right about the probable age of the card.

Hey guys, the winner of the second go-around would like to know why it's a fake. Can some of you experts give a link and/or explanation as to why it not original? Maybe a side-to-side comparison?

What the heck...

Eric, there are several red flags. The most obvious is the text on the back, color and frame size. The text on the front should not be pure black, but shat brown in color. The N in NAT'L should be larger than the AT'L

The front colors are washed out and faded and artificially aged(in and of itself, these signs are inconclusive).

Real vs counterfeits;

Here is a recent Thread which exposed this same seller and at least another seller trying to pass off these fake t206 HOFer's
with wrong colored OLD MILL backs.

And, it looks like he's still at it.....and, this time he succeeded ! !

It's a shame....people, it does pay to tune in to Net54, so one can avoid such expensive mistakes.

Steve, thanks much. This is one of the reasons that I enjoy this board. I will print your comparison and keep it in my "counterfeit cards" file that I take with me to flea markets and card shows.

New eBay auction number is 270201597943. Looks like the problem with the back of this card was taken care of. It's got a new back (and note also how the borders of the front scan line up perfectly with the borders of the back scan . . . really great card for someone to add to their collection).
