Default T201 Mecca question

Posted By: Jimi

I have two variations of T201s. One is "Factory No. 30" and the other is "Factory No. 649". I have found through research that these are the only 2 known variations of the cards, but which is more rare? I'm guessing the 649 is since it is the only one I have. And, is there a premium for them? Thanks, and help is appreciated!

Jimi

Default T201 Mecca question

I'm surprised no one knows the answer to this one. If no one knows here, can someone direct me to a source that may know? Anyone have a website on the rareness of the different Factory No. backs? Since the T206 and T205 backs have the same issues, I figured someone might no about the T201s.

According to Lipset the Dougherty/Lord was the only card not printed at both places which accounts for the rarity. By that logic there shouldn't be a premium on any others in the set because of factory designation.

Just a guess though...

Default T201 Mecca question

Hi Jimi,

I have a set as part of my collection and they are almost evenly distributed between factories 649 and 30 so I would say neither is more prevalent than the other...

Scott

Edited to add...

If you'd like to see the backs, they are displayed on mywebsite. Just click on the animated .gifs of the cards to see the particular back...

nice pics, although looking at it for a minute or so I felt like I did as a kid, after getting off of that red playground thing that twirled around incessantly.

very well done

Default T201 Mecca question

I've shared my T201 gallery with the board before but figured it was appropriate to post it here since the backs are displayed and show that I've probably got about an equal number from each factory in my set.

The animated .gifs I used are a neat way to see both players on each card but just don't stare at the page too long. Maybe I should put a disclaimer on the page... view at your own risk

When I had my 3 complete sets, I don't recall one being more prevelent the other. Back in the 80s, I was paying attention to factory numbers when no one else was. They all thought I was nuts and they are proabably right, but look what happened with t206 backs.

I've just reached Upper Lower Class. I am now officially a babe magnet for poor chicks.
