Default Possible way to help Ben

Posted By: Mike McGrail

Just can't shake the ugly feeling that I got when I read Bens post. I feel worse about this then when the Steelers blew it AGAIN this past post season against the Pats. And I have been a die-hard Black and Gold fan since forever.

Anyway ... If my math is correct, some low life has taken Ben for 86 cards, not counting the Gretzky/Jordan.

I believe that this board has at least that many posters. What if we all adopt ONE of the cards and make it our personal mission to keep our eyes open for that particular one. Perferably a card that is close to our own colection area. Get to know the scan. And start keeping a regular eye on eBay and other channels. This may take awhile, but it could increase the odds of finding one of them. And one may lead to more .....

This doesn't stop us from also keeping our eye open for all of them, but it will surely increase the chances, won't it?

I'd be more than happy to do the admin on this to make sure that as many of the cards as possible get adopted. I have already marked myself down for the T206 Cobb bat off.

Come on folks, step up to the plate on this one.

Mike

I was thinking the same thing Mike. I was in the middle of a trade with Ben, and two of the cards stolen are for all intensive purposes, are mine (the D304 Barry and CJ Evers). I'll be keeping my eyes open for these two cards in specific through every outlet I know, and if found, will join Ben in legal action.

BTW, I'm with ya on the Steelers..watched the latest collapse (thanks for reminding me of that ugly loss)...which only made me curse the Pat's even more in the SB. We'll be back in '06!

E.

I have made an offer to Ben on it before (unsuccessfully ). I have since picked one up from Wesley. I'd be happy to help in any way possible, even offering to donate my Collins. I have a good life, and it would make me happy to help out a fellow collector.

I too just can't imagine this happening to anyone. Ben, you have my best thoughts coming your way.

Sincerely,

Bill Kasel

A handful of the cards used to be mine and I know them very well and it would be impossible for me not to notice them at public market including:
t206 green portrait sgc 20
t206 batt off american beauty psa 2
N184 burch sgc 20
e104 collins psa 3
e104 baker in ga holder 2.5
d303 speaker in psa holder with small corner clip psa1
I know other collectors on the board and dealers that post here are familiar with these very examples as well.

Good luck to Ben.

MIKE - This is a great idea for all of us to network to try to recover the stolen cards and nab the guilty party.
Mark me down for the T3 Turkey Red Harry McIntyre. I collect this set and I am always checking eBay and dealer web sites as it is...jay

Please put me down for any cards that are left over. I have a strong working knowledge of his cards as many of them were actually in my collection at one point. I'll take the four e107s, the Cracker Jacks. Whatever is needed...

Thanks everyone,

This is a great idea. Since I collect only PCL stuff right now and I do multiple searches at all hours both day and night, I can keep my eyes peeled for the E99/E100 Bishops, D311 Smith, and the Obak Daley. If either of the Bishops or the D311 come up on Ebay they are probably Ben's, as neither come around too often.

I would help out in this area if I could, but being temporarily out of collecting, I'm not actively looking for cards and I'd do a lousy job. I think this is a great idea though and I applaud everyone for participating. Hopefully with these many pairs of eyes, this will be solved sooner if not later. This kind of group support is a beautiful thing...

Although, I'm parting with my own 210's (thanks tbob and eric p) so i can
focus on 206's, i have lived with 210's for over 20 years.
hope this helps Ben.

See updated list above. Once all have been adopted, I'll create a new with the final breakdown. Maybe Bill can find a way to keep it "sticky" at the top of the board for awhile.

33 cards still need someone to keep an eye out for them

I am new to this board also, and frankly I am just flabergasted at the outpouring of support that I see here. It really is unbelieveable, and Ben you have my sympathy for your loss, but also my admiration on the obvious fellowship you have created for yourself from all of these board members. I know it means little now, but take some solace in that.
I am always looking at T207's on ebay, and will take the two of them. Players's name? I have a T206 (red background) Cobb that I will donate to Ben. It isn't as good of shape as Ben's I'm sure, but maybe it will help.

Study the images of Ben's cards that you have volunteered to handle, then set up an ebay search and call it something like "Ben-Search". Check it every day and also check 'completed items'. If the thief is really stupid he might put up low BIN's on a few of these to cash in quickly.

but I never let a T207 Red Cycle go by anywhere without checking it out, so I'll help on that one. Hey ben if you are reading this, who is pictured on the Red Cycle card? I checked your web site for the back and I got a Ramly TTT back.
Also since no one is taking the T209 Color Cowell, I'll keep an eye peeled for that one too.

Maybe a few people can get a temp e-mail account (easy to set up anything w/ Yahoo) and post a few places with offers to buy the card you're watching out for. Any ideas on where to post? Someone might jump at a chance to make a private deal...

It was in partial payment for his work on my website. If anyone else wants to look: back is great, front: excellent picture, one corner is just nipped, and lower right has TWO tack holes, but somehow managed to survive. Clean.

I have a color printer, so I printed my two cards to look for off of Ben's site and tacked them up on my bulletin board right by my computer.
