Default Question about re-sizing a ring

Can a championship style ring that was initially/ originally mfg.'d as a size 10 be properly and safely re-sized to a 13.5? The ring in question is not made of gold but rather a much harder metal like sterling silver or some other alloy.

If so, is something that a professional jeweler could do without too much fuss?

Any help would be much appreciated as it would inform a purchase that I am considering making in the near future.

Many thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon,

You have a couple of different issues here:

1) I had always heard that rings can not be resized if they are not made of gold (I am not sure about gold-filled).

2) The second issue is that if there are markings inside the ring, and they are often ruined for lost when resizing . That could significantly hurt the value of the ring.

3) If you are the original ring owner, you can send it back to the ring company and they can and often will resize the ring and reapply stamping if the ring needs to be re stamped. Most of the time, the ring manufacture will only deal with the original owner, not another person who bought the ring.

Good luck, I hope this information helps!

A gold or sterling silver ring can be resized but only up a size or two. Any ring made of the white and yellow substitute metals such as lustrium, ultrium, stainless steel, etc. cannot be resized.
