Default PSA auto question

I bought a Bobby Thomson auto card that I thought was his 52 Bowman, but the PSA case says “Trading Card”. Any grading experts know why?

The card is fine. Last year PSA did away with the Blue Flip when they switched to the light house, and unless the submitter payed for dual service the flip won’t designate the card type and year. It’s the equivalent of the old blue flip.

"Trading Card" means the card has not been evaluated by PSA for authenticity. So it could be a 1952 Bowman or it could be a reprint/counterfeit. You can resubmit to PSA under the Dual Service (card and auto) and they will evaluate the card and grade the card and the auto if you pay them to.

So if you see a 1963 Topps Pete Rose in one of these flips that says Trading Card, you should be very leery that it's a real card. For a tattered 1952 Bowman semi-star, it's probably real. Not sure if you can add it to a player auto set registry, but to add to the 1952 Bowman autographed card set registry, you'll need to resubmit to PSA.

Don't want to derail the thread, but if you submit autographed cards to PSA (for authentication, not grading), you don't have to actually be a member, correct? Anyone can print out the form and submit cards?

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.

Correct. Annual memberships are only for bulk submitters. You probably need to create a free account on their site, though.

Unless it’s changed you don’t need a membership to submit at all. The membership only granted you ability to sub under membership specials.
